Stretton/ 2024 Queensland state election

Here is a mock up of a Traffic Light Voting Guide. The real time guides for each electorate will be available after the ballot draw which will happen either on Thursday October 10th or Friday October 11th. We will prepare the guides over the weekend ready for pre-polling on Monday October 14th. Once we upload them to the website, you will be able to download, print, and fill them in at home and then take them to the polling booth with you to easily transfer your choices onto the ballot paper.  Alternatively, take your phone with you when you head off to vote, and you can then access our advice on the screen.

In the meantime, you can scroll down this page to check out the Green Light Candidate profiles in your electorate.

The team at Vote Climate One encourages all candidates to support the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin any decisions in the Queensland Legislative Assembly relating to action on the climate emergency.

Ahmed Abdulhamed (Greens)

As an engineer, father and community advocate, I am deeply passionate about our community’s success. I actively participate in initiatives such as the “Buy Nothing Project”, neighbourhood watch, and Amnesty International projects to make our communities safer and more prosperous

I work in software engineering, with a track record of working with ethical companies that connect and secure the world around us. My personal experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by people in our community struggling with ever increasing rent and mortgage repayments, housing insecurity and high living expenses.

Stretton has one of the highest rates of migrants in Queensland, with diverse languages spoken at home. We deserve to be represented by someone who understands our challenges.

In Queensland, we have some of the best teachers and state schools, yet they’re underfunded by more than $1bn annually. This results in overcrowded classrooms, disengaged students, and more out-of-pocket expenses for families and teachers.

Our public health system is struggling with increased physical and mental health impacts in the aftermath of a global pandemic, leading to unacceptable rates of nurse and staff burnout.

Our state has extraordinary wealth, which should be used to ensure a sustainable and fair future for all of us. That’s why the Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders and make them pay their fair share. We’ll freeze rents and tax big corporations fairly to build 100,000 public homes. We’ll also use that money to fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

I’m calling for unity and hope for everyone in our community, fighting racism and prejudice, especially for those who are vulnerable or at risk. As your representative, I will address these issues by implementing rational plans and policies guided by expert advice and best practice.

Labor has failed to take action, and the LNP don’t have a better alternative. Here in Stretton, people know that the status quo is not serving our community, and we need change. Our community deserves genuine representation, not influenced by big corporations. The Greens don’t take corporate donations like other parties do, so as your MP, I will focus on your needs and concerns, not on vested interests.

I am standing for Stretton because I believe in our community and its potential. I’m asking for your support this October because I know that together, we can bring about the change our community needs.
