Green Light Candidates
Scott Turner (Greens)
Since graduating from Palm Beach-Currumbin State High School, I have seen the Gold Coast, and Australia, go through many changes. I began my career in scientific research and have since worked in administration in healthcare, crisis accommodation and mental health, and education; and as a customer service agent for TransLink. During this time I’ve seen how vested interests can influence the decisions made by politicians, and how our communities suffer for it.
I am passionate about affordable housing for every demographic of our community, from single renters to families aspiring to own a home to elderly people looking to downsize or move into a retirement village or aged care centre.
The Greens have a plan to tackle the housing crisis, by freezing rents for 2 years, capping rent increases on-going, and giving renters a guaranteed right to lease renewal. Further to that, we’ll build 100,000 well-designed public homes to rent or buy for below market rate through the creation of a Public Property Developer.
I’m excited about our plan to cut power bills and create ten of thousands of well paid new jobs by transitioning to 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.
The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll expand public transport systems and move towards making them free, improving our lifestyle and increasing mobility for non-drivers.
Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, so I will represent you, not vested interests. We’ll make big corporations and billionaires pay their fair share of tax to ensure that every Queenslander has what they need to live a good life.
I am inspired by the way that Australians always band together to help each other in times of crisis.
Together we can do this. Join my campaign and help make it happen.
