Green Light Candidates
Francine Wiig (Independent)
I’ve called the Fairfax electorate home for 20 years, when I moved from Brisbane to join my husband, who has lived here for nearly 40 years. Together, we run our family’s long-established air conditioning business, and we’re raising our 10-year-old twins right here on the Sunshine Coast. This community is everything to us – it’s where we work, live, volunteer, and build lifelong connections.
My professional background spans small business, law, education, and community service, giving me a broad perspective on the challenges and opportunities we face here in Fairfax. I hold a Bachelor of Laws and an Associate Degree in Business from the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Running a business and navigating complex legal issues has equipped me with the resilience, discipline, and problem-solving skills needed to tackle tough challenges and deliver real results.
I believe deeply in contributing to the community you live in and leading by example. Over the years, I’ve volunteered extensively with our local schools, community groups, and sports clubs.
Community connection is at the heart of everything I do. I’ve spent 5 years serving on the School Board at my children’s primary school, including 4 years as Chair, where I supported governance, strategic initiatives, and community-building activities. I’m passionate about creating environments where people can come together and thrive.
I am heavily engaged with my kid’s youth theatre productions, helping bring stories to life and supporting the next generation of performers. My husband and I are also proud to be actively involved in our local Football Club – coaching teams, refereeing games, organizing events, and, of course, cooking plenty of sausages at the weekend BBQs.
For me, community is about showing up, pitching in, and helping create the kind of place we’re all proud to call home.
Why am I stepping up now?
Like so many of you, I feel a sense of despair when I look at the current state of politics. Fairfax has been a safe seat for far too long, and that means our voices are being ignored.
Instead of addressing real issues like housing affordability, cost of living, transport, education, small business and climate action, our current representative is promoting policies that don’t solve the urgent problems we face.
I want to change that. I’m here to represent you – not a political party.
I’ll listen to our community, work hard to bring your concerns to Canberra, and fight for the real solutions we need to build a better future for Fairfax.
This beautiful part of the world deserves so much more, and together, I know we can make a difference.
