Chris Evans (Greens)

I grew up in Mackay and now work as a draftsperson and estimator in the manufacturing industry. On top of that, I volunteer with a native plant club and a conservation group. Through these experiences, I’ve seen first hand how closely our environment, our climate, and our economy are linked. Our environment is under pressure, and with a changing climate, we’re all at risk—both people and nature.

A healthy society also needs basics like affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and fair food prices. Right now, Townsville is facing huge challenges—housing is in short supply, with vacancy rates below 1% since 2020, and people are struggling with skyrocketing grocery bills and other costs of living.

As a regional Queenslander, I see that our political system hasn’t been working for Townsville. Labor and the LNP are too focused on the interests of big corporations, leaving our city’s needs unheard.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. With your support, we can create real positive change!

The Greens have a plan to freeze and cap rent increases, build more public housing, and stop tax breaks for wealthy property investors. These changes will help make housing more affordable and fair, giving everyone the chance to live with dignity in their own homes.

I’m also committed to pushing for dental and mental health care to be included in Medicare, and making visits to the GP free. The Greens have a plan to bring the cost of your weekly grocery shop down by making price gouging illegal. We will advocate for raising Centrelink payments and the pension, and clearing student HECS debt and make lifelong learning free.

By making billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share of tax, we can fund these solutions to the cost of living crisis and take real action on the climate emergency.

But I can’t do it alone. The Greens don’t take money from big corporations, which means I need your help.

Together, we can make a difference
