Green Light Candidates
James Smart (Greens)
I am a public servant, renter, and proud neurodivergent person living in Tingalpa. As a disabled tenant, I have first-hand experience of the consequences of both the housing and cost of living crises.
For too long, big mining corporations, the duopoly of supermarkets like Coles and Woolies and the wealthy real estate industry have had too much power, worsening the lives of everyday Queenslanders.
More investment in public schools, public and social housing, and crisis accommodation is sorely needed. Many parents are paying through the nose for public education, which should be free, and many tenants are one rent increase away from eviction.
No one should have to choose between eating and paying the rent or mortgage. No one should be homeless due to domestic violence or simply because the cost of the roof over their heads is too much.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.
We’ll make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.
The Greens don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so I’ll work for you and your needs – not those of vested interests.
With your support, we can make the positive changes Queenslanders desperately need.
