Here’s how you can make climate a compelling issue locally.

A New Melbourne

• Foster Innovation and Technology, by reducing bureaucracy, increasing investment in science and technology, utilizing open resources to enhance entrepreneurship, and establishing a balanced and productive industry.
• Boost Economy, by investing in technology to use Australia’s abundant seawater will position us as leaders in renewable hydrogen energy. This will create sustainable energy solutions locally and support global efforts, while also boosting our economy through hydrogen technology exports.
• High-speed rail between Melbourne and the airport would greatly improve Victoria’s efficiency and strengthen our reputation as a top livable city.

Reducing Cost of Living

• Controlling Inflation, through home loan reforms, energy bill relief and fuel price capping.
• Boost Funding for Community and Public Housing programs to ensure affordable housing for low-income individuals.
• UBI can help Australians adapt to the AI era. This income would provide financial security, promote a balanced lifestyle, and encourage creativity. It allows people to work for enjoyment rather than just for retirement security, resulting in a more vibrant and dynamic society.
• Open bulk-billing Medicare clinics, including 7-Eleven Medical Centers. Medicare should also cover essential dental and mental health check-ups.

Build a Harmonious Society

• Establish an independent organization dedicated to protecting whistleblowers.
• Reinforce cyber-security laws by fostering robust at police departments at key stations, ensuring swift and effective responses to online crime reports.
• Creating open green spaces will not only bring us close to the nature but also strengthen community ties and encourage friendships in the neighborhood.

I want a safe climate, a more equal society and a real future, for all of us.

I got into politics because I realised that by entering Parliament and working with the community we could transform our country, and I’m so proud of what we’ve been able to achieve together.

Together, we made history in 2010 when we turned Melbourne Green for the first time – we got dental into Medicare for kids and $13 billion for clean and renewable energy.

Before entering the world of politics, I worked as a public interest and industrial lawyer, protecting workers from privatisation and big business. I represented some of Australia’s lowest paid workers, including in legal actions against corporate giants like Nike, making them responsible for the wages and conditions of workers in their supply chain.

I worked with coal workers in the Latrobe Valley after their power stations were privatised, fighting to make sure their rights were protected. One of my first acts in Parliament was to introduce a private members bill extending protection for firefighters who contract cancer through their work, which passed into law with unanimous support.

In 2007, I put my hand up to be a Greens candidate for Melbourne for the first time because I was terrified about the looming climate crisis.

I knew that it wouldn’t be enough to just change my personal actions; we needed big solutions – to transform our country and save the climate, we needed to transform the Parliament.

‘I was able to play a key role in the Gillard minority government’s Multi-Party Climate Change Committee which developed the carbon price and established the successful Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.’

It was only through your help in getting me to Canberra and the signed agreement with Julia Gillard that the carbon price was introduced. Melbourne voting Green saw carbon pollution drop meaningfully for the first time in Australian history.

Our movement is growing, and I know we can continue to do incredible things. Thank you for being part of this movement for change and please keep in touch as we work together for a fairer future for all.

For instance it is very difficult to access ranking information from parties or candidates who have no public email, phone number or little internet profile. In these cases, we apply the precautionary principle with a Red Light ranking until further information and commitment to climate rescue comes to hand.

The major parties have let the Australian public down when it comes a serious policy commitment to action on the ecological and climate crisis. Consequently, we have assessed both the Labor party and the Coalition as Red Light parties. Nevertheless, in relation to our Traffic Light Voting guides, the Labor party has been ranked orange ahead of the Coalition which remains a stubborn Red Light proposition.

The House of Representitives

Labor is ranked Orange for the House of Reps. The opportunity for a Green Transition, sparked by the influence of a progressive cross bench holding the balance of power in a Labor minority government, is our bet bet for climate rescue.

The Senate

Likewise our senate Traffic Light Voting Guides also promote Labor ahead of the Coalition using an Orange Light status. This stategy will help discourage the worst senario for climate action which would result from a combative Coalition/right wing party majority in the senate.
