Shortland

I have lived all my life in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, worked here and raised my two daughters here.

I want our region to do well and for the people of Shortland to have excellent public education, well-funded healthcare, aged care facilities that are able to care for their residents, more affordable housing and a healthy environment.

As a member of Save Our Coast I have sought the end of Petroleum Exploration Permit (PEP) 11, which allows surveying, seismic testing and drilling for gas and oil off the coast of our electorate. Scott Morrison said the licence will end, but I do not want to see them changing their minds should the LNP get back into government.

I work with members of the Lake Macquarie and Central Coast Coal-ash Community Alliance and am a member of the Community Consultative Committee for Eraring Power Station. I want to see the more than 100 million tonnes of toxic coal-ash stored in Vales Point, Munmorah and Eraring removed and used to manufacture environmentally safe and economically valuable products.

This creates jobs for power station and mine workers and will ensure that the dams are emptied and the environmental threat to our region disappears. The Greens have more bold plans for a Just Transition that are fully costed, create good quality
