Green Light Candidates

Hi, I’m Steffi Medrow
I’m proud to be your Greens candidate for Cheltenham. I am running because in the last forty years no parliament has made a real dent into stopping the ever increasing inequality and destruction of our natural environment. On a state level we have an opportunity to make the lives of the majority of people better and taking financial strain off them by providing strong, free of charge public services.
I have lived in the seat of Cheltenham for over twelve years and have always lived in the North Western suburbs since migrating from Germany in 2008. Our community does not currently get the attention we deserve, which becomes obvious by looking at our almost non existent tree canopy and the lack of amenities like a tram connection or public outdoor pool. Propping up events like the Adelaide 500 or Liv Golf have no benefit to our residents whatsoever. It shows that there is absolutely no consideration of how many of our neighbours live close to or below the poverty line and what their real needs are. I served on the Woodville High School governing council and finance committee for all my son’s high school years and got to know a lot of people in our community (and our problems) over the time.
I have worked in project and production management for close to thirty years and have additional qualifications in counselling and economics. I have experienced the severe drug addiction and homelessness of a very close family member, and have fought for the most marginalised all my life.
This is the fourth election I am running in and I am planning to run until I either get elected or am physically not able to do so any more. Being a politician means far more than a career choice for me. I deeply and genuinely care for this electorate and the people here, and I would like your support. I will keep our Greens values of Social Justice and Environmental Responsibility at the forefront of everything I will be doing for you as your representative in parliament.
This moment demands strong climate action.
If you’re worried about the climate crisis, you’re not alone.
Millions of us are worried about rising power bills, environmental destruction and protecting our families from extreme weather.
Labor has approved over 25 more coal and gas projects while in office, while the Liberals’ commitment to fossil fuels remains stronger than ever.
Both take millions in donations from coal and gas corporations to fund their election campaigns. They’re working for their donors, not for people, our planet or the future.
With the Greens in the balance of power in the Senate, this parliament has a real opportunity to deliver strong climate action.
Our plan for ambitious climate action
Our wins on climate and clean energy have shown what’s possible. Now it’s time to push further and lead the world in the move away from coal and gas.
- Stop new coal and gas.
- Expand publicly-owned renewable energy.
- End the billions in handouts to coal, oil and gas corporations.
- End native forest logging.
- Lower power bills by transitioning to more reliable, clean energy.
- Subsidise solar & batteries for homes & businesses.
- End fossil fuel subsidies for all industries except agriculture.
- Save koalas and our wildlife from extinction.
- Create thousands of jobs during the transition.
- Provide grants and low-interest loans to help households and small businesses electrify, install solar batteries, and cut emissions and energy bills.
