Green Light Candidates

Hi, I’m Genevieve Dawson-Scott
I’m your GREENS state election candidate for Heysen in the Adelaide Hills.
I’m a renter in beautiful Bridgewater with my young family. I work as an early childhood educator and marriage celebrant. I volunteer at our local toy library, community hall, and kindergym. I’m also an artist, working out of my shed studio.
As a renter, I’ve been subject to terrible housing conditions and unlimited rent hikes. I’ve experienced the sting of the cost of living crisis. I’m not sheltered or removed from my neighbours’ struggles. I feel them with you.
Children motivate me to be more political. They can’t advocate for themselves. There are too many politicians treating the climate emergency as an afterthought. I feel a duty of care to all children to stand up and demand urgent change.
I’m driven by community connection. I feel at home in roles that help people. Recently, I’ve been establishing playgroups, hosting clothes swaps, and organising creative projects that bring people together.
I’m standing with the Greens because I believe in a better future. I see the Greens as a source of hope – a hope for integrity and transparency, for bold changes to make our communities fairer, and real environmental action.
I will be a voice for our community, for those who are distressed by our changing climate, and are looking for considered and caring leadership.
This moment demands strong climate action.
If you’re worried about the climate crisis, you’re not alone.
Millions of us are worried about rising power bills, environmental destruction and protecting our families from extreme weather.
Labor has approved over 25 more coal and gas projects while in office, while the Liberals’ commitment to fossil fuels remains stronger than ever.
Both take millions in donations from coal and gas corporations to fund their election campaigns. They’re working for their donors, not for people, our planet or the future.
With the Greens in the balance of power in the Senate, this parliament has a real opportunity to deliver strong climate action.
Our plan for ambitious climate action
Our wins on climate and clean energy have shown what’s possible. Now it’s time to push further and lead the world in the move away from coal and gas.
- Stop new coal and gas.
- Expand publicly-owned renewable energy.
- End the billions in handouts to coal, oil and gas corporations.
- End native forest logging.
- Lower power bills by transitioning to more reliable, clean energy.
- Subsidise solar & batteries for homes & businesses.
- End fossil fuel subsidies for all industries except agriculture.
- Save koalas and our wildlife from extinction.
- Create thousands of jobs during the transition.
- Provide grants and low-interest loans to help households and small businesses electrify, install solar batteries, and cut emissions and energy bills.
