Armadale Green Light Candidates

Shelley Harrington (Greens)

As a public servant with a degree in environmental science, I’m deeply passionate about sustainability and nature.

I’m tired of seeing the major parties exacerbate the cost of housing and rampant urban sprawl, which are having a huge impact on our community here in Armadale. We need sustainable growth for the region, making sure it does not come at the expense of the natural environment. As such, I’ll advocate for infill projects in Armadale to create dense, liveable neighbourhoods filled with community green spaces, public transport links, and necessary infrastructure.

This election we have a real opportunity to get more Greens into parliament to push the government further and faster on these issues and more, like urgent action on the cost of living, housing and climate crises.

A better future for WA is possible – but we have to make it happen together.

If you want change, you have to vote for it.

Albany Green Light Candidates

Phillip Arnatt (LCWA)

Phil is committed to fair representation and advocating for policies that prioritise personal freedom and community well-being.

Lynn MacLaren (Greens)

I’m a proud resident and local councillor with an unwavering commitment to Albany and the surrounding communities of the Great Southern.
As an experienced advocate, both within Parliament and in the wider community, I’ll be using my skills to raise the voices of people who are forgotten by the major political parties. More than ever, Australians need elected representatives with integrity and experience.
Like you, I have listened to the countless announcements from people asking us to vote for them, yearning for something to make me feel hopeful. And while I’ve seen snippets of good news, there’s so much that needs fixing in WA – from our lacklustre approach to addressing climate change to our failure to address the housing crisis.
Labor’s poor track record of keeping promises has never been more clear: just look at how they’ve backtracked on delivering much-needed reforms to the Equal Opportunity Act to protect LGBTIQA+ people.
I have a long history of scrutinising decisions leading to positive change. I’ve been proud to have challenged and stopped the misguided and unscientific shark cull of the last Liberal government, and to have led the charge to scrap Roe 8 – which threatened our rapidly disappearing wetlands and bushlands.
Do you fear supertankers being loaded all day and all night in King George Sound?
Do you want to leave Yakamia Forest boodja exposed to development?
Do you want to see more cookie-cutter housing developments, devoid of trees, native vegetation, birds and wildlife?
I know I don’t.
As this next election approached, I realised that unless I took a stand it would be business as usual for the next four years. This is why I’m so proud to be putting my name forward to represent Albany and the interests of the Great Southern.
The Greens need your support to take back our Parliament from corporate-backed politicians, whose constant flow of donations ensure that they’ll never put their constituents first.
Democracy works – but to enact change, you have to play your part. Don’t give your vote away to a major party – they got us into this mess. Only the Greens have a plan to get us out.
If you want change you have to vote for it. Vote 1 Green in Albany this state election.

Cottesloe Green Light Candidates

Dr Rachel Horncastle (Independent)

A greener and economically smarter future for Cottesloe

  • Protect our local environment for future generations including setting tree canopy targets and protecting large trees on private land.
  • Provide certainty for industry and power our energy transition by advocating for a WA emissions reduction target by 2035.
  • Follow evidence-based policy by supporting the cheapest and cleanest pathway for WA’s energy transition, underpinned by renewables with storage.
  • Calling for a range of smart household subsidies including batteries and electrification support.

Jessica Yu (LCWA)

Local resident and web designer, Jessica will offer a viable alternative for those who are tired of the Liberal Party’s in-fighting, and the lack of focus on the issues important to ordinary residents.

Jessica is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

Heidi Hardisti (Greens)

I’m a full-time conservation volunteer, a mum of two boys and I’m proud to call Cottesloe home. I grew up on the prairies in Canada and was the first person in our family to attend university, earning a degree in geological engineering. I worked as a petroleum engineer, then completed a master’s degree in the biological sciences before we called Australia home.

I moved to Cottesloe with my husband and kids in 2006, the same year I decided to dedicate my life to nature conservation. This decision resulted in me leading the Friends of Lake Claremont from 2007 to 2018, and I am still highly involved with what has become one of the largest and most successful urban restoration projects in Australia.

Since moving to Australia, and seeing the beauty of this country, I have also learned that we are not doing enough to protect what we are so lucky to have.

Our climate is changing, threatening the places we love. Inequality in health, wealth and education is steadily growing, robbing many of the opportunity to be happy and successful. Housing is out of reach for many, and the cost of living is skyrocketing.

The major parties are increasingly sacrificing the interests of the people, local businesses and the environment to the benefit of big corporations and vested interests.

Only the Greens have a plan for a resilient future for all of us. It’s time to put the interests of people and the environment – on which we all depend – first.

Vote 1 Greens.

Churchlands Green Light Candidates

Tian Carrie-Wilson (Independent)

Tian Carrie-Wilson is an Engineer and new technology enthusiast. He attended Churchlands SHS and graduated from The University of Western Australia with Bachelor degrees in Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Science. He has previously worked in the defence sector and is currently working to decarbonise the resources industry as an Electrical Engineer. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, rugby, bikes of all types and reading about all things new. As a homeowner in Innaloo, Tian is keen to make a great difference for WA and Churchlands. Engineering smart policy.

Lisa Thornton (Independent)

Protecting Our Environment and Taking Climate Action:

I’m committed to protecting Churchlands’ natural spaces, expanding our tree canopy, and preserving local biodiversity. We need practical climate solutions that future-proof our community while safeguarding what makes Churchlands a special place to live.

Caroline McLean (Greens)

I am an insurance professional, and an avid climate and environmental volunteer. After spending my childhood visiting friends and family in Churchlands, I made this special place my home in late 2020.

The Australian dream isn’t what it used to be, with more people than ever living below the poverty line. We are a wealthy country and we should not be seeing such a disparity between the haves and have nots.

In WA we are also witnessing the continued destruction of our critically invaluable natural environment in the pursuit of profits, with the interests of large corporations often coming before the needs of the people and nature.

Western Australia is a special place: we have an abundance of unique plant and animal life. The south west of WA is one of 36 Global Biodiversity Hotspots, which is seriously concerning, as to be a Hotspot, over 70% of the natural vegetation in this area has already been cleared.

The Greens are the only party who is truly committed to protecting the environment, from our commitment to net-zero emissions by 2030 to our advocacy to keep our suburbs green. This is especially important in Churchlands, where we need to save our dwindling tree canopy and urban bushland that’s keeping our suburbs cool and providing much-needed habitat for endangered species.

I love our beautiful state and our way of life, so I will be the strong advocate that our people, our natural environment and our climate are calling for.

That’s why I’ve stepped up to represent Churchlands: we need good, strong leaders to focus on securing a safe and healthy future for all, rather than protecting the interests of the wealthy few.

The Greens are a grassroots movement, so we need your support to enact the change we all want to see.

You have the power to choose the future you want for yourself and your loved ones.

Together we can make history. Vote Greens 1 this election!coming soon!

Kate Hulett (Independent)

I am a long-standing champion for decisive and urgent climate action, the comprehensive protection of our environment, and the strengthening of our unique and precious biodiversity.

My vision for Fremantle is that its built and natural environments reflect the values of its people; that it leads the way in finding and implementing solutions for the climate crisis that enhance everyday lives, diversify our economy and create opportunities.

Like many residents of Fremantle, I am frustrated at the lack of serious action on climate and environment and at the government’s failure to secure the long-term wellbeing of our home and community.

Policy priorities:

  • A full state-wide ban of fracking;
  • Legislated targets for reducing our state’s emissions and for increasing renewable energy investment;
  • No new, expanded or extended fossil fuel projects, including winding down fossil fuel projects on Murujuga (the Burrup Peninsula);
  • The permanent protection of Scott Reef;
  • Evidence-backed changes to prescribed burning in the South West, and;
  • A strengthened, well funded and genuinely independent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

More climate policies will be announced shortly.

David Foley (LCWA)

Natashia Boland (Animal Justice Party)

Growing up on bushland property, my draw to animal welfare was heavily influenced by my mother. She was an early wildlife carer, volunteering her time and resources to care for injured animals until they could gradually be released into safe habitats. Throughout my younger years, evenings and weekends were often spent helping to care for joeys and wallabies — and it was these early experiences that sparked my passion for wildlife protection.

My career has been in academia as a professor in an area of applied mathematics, where I have enjoyed teaching and mentoring research students. As part of this, I have been active on issues of diversity and inclusion — initiating programs to improve the participation and success of women and underrepresented minorities in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and maths).

Since retiring, I have dedicated my time to the animal protection cause. As a volunteer with the Animal Justice Party for a number of years, including on the WA Committee and as sitting Board Director, I have seen first-hand how transformative political representation can be for animals.

I believe that we can secure the kinds of wins for animals that we have seen with our MPs in NSW and Victoria — starting with reforming animal cruelty legislation and establishing a much-needed Veticare model in WA.

I also know that Fremantle residents often witness the horror of live animal export first-hand. If elected, I will work with the State Government to ensure the ban on live sheep exports remains, and that a just transition supports farmers to end the practice as soon as possible.

“I long for a world in which animals are never exploited and have the freedom to live full lives, and I will fight for any and all measures which move us closer to this reality.”

Natashia’s Key Priorities in this Election Include:

  • Ending greyhound racing across the state, saving dogs from injury and death in the name of gambling profits
  • Creating dedicated wildlife hospitals as part of our Veticare plan, to ensure our native icons receive critical veterinary care
  • Rapid climate action to protect our rich biodiversity and reverse species extinction

Every vote for the Animal Justice Party is a step toward a brighter future for all living beings.

Natashia is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

Felicity Townsend (Greens)

For years, I was involved in small-scale sustainability and community advocacy work. I saw the positive effects that local action could have, but it soon became clear to me that working within a broken system can only get you so far – if you want to make a substantial difference, you have to change the system.

There’s something special about Freo – if you live here, you know what I mean. But successive State governments have taken us for granted. They’ve pushed through projects and changes without stopping to ask us: is this right for Fremantle?

We’ve seen promises of public housing, only to have the development sites left empty for years on end, exacerbating the housing crisis. We’ve seen a new police precinct sprung on us, with no thought given to maintaining our City’s culture. And we’ve had to fight tooth and nail to have our voices heard when the Government tried to force their woefully inadequate Traffic Bridge redevelopment plan on us. Time and time again, Fremantle has been taken for granted.

We deserve a representative who will stand up to the State Government and tell them that our community will have its voice heard. We need someone who will do more than just rubber-stamp whatever the Government wants to do – someone who will force the Government to come to the table, early, and with open minds, and work with the community, not against us.

This election, a vote for The Greens is a vote for a voice for the Freo community. It is a vote for real action on the housing crisis. It is a vote for sustainable and thoughtful urban and community development. It is a vote for a future that Freo deserves.

A better future for Fremantle is possible – but if we want change, we have to make it happen together. Join me, and our Greens movement. Sign up to volunteer and join our team!

Right now, so many people are struggling. House prices are through the roof, rent is out of control and cost of living is constantly rising.

But there is hope – we can work together to make a real difference and help our community thrive.

Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, so I will represent you, not vested interests.

The Greens will tax big corporations fairly and use that money to build 100,000 homes, make our schools and healthcare genuinely free and lower power bills by transitioning to 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We will increase public transport across our state and make it free. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

Together, we can do this. Join my campaign and help make it happen.

Angela Adams (LCQ)

Angela qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

The Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party endorses the vision of the Climate Rescue Accord, to stop and reverse global heating, and recognise the 3Rs as commensurate action to achieve that vision, and have adopted or are on the path to adopting a comprehensive suite of the 3Rs in their policies.

Hemp has some impressive environmental credentials. It grows faster than most weeds, negating the need for herbicides and it is fairly pest resistant. Two crops can be grown per season. It is an excellent crop for carbon sequestration and it can be used to make a strong and pest-resistant building material called hempcrete that continues to absorb carbon dioxide as it cures.

We need urgent measures to stop plastic pollution. Our lives and future depend on it. Bio-plastic materials offer significant advantages for the environment. As they are not made from fossil fuels, they do not produce carbon dioxide when decomposing. In addition, most of them are biodegradable. Everything indicates that they could be an especially important part of solving the climate crisis. Hemp is increasingly being recognised as having tremendous potential in our natural ‘toolbox’ of promising crops for bioplastics.

Policy Statements

  • We care about the future of our planet. A greener bent will give our children and our grandchildren clean/er air and clean/er water. Each of us must try to do our part to innovate, change and respect the environment. Our lives and future depend on it!
  • Plastic waste chokes the planet. Petrochemicals are found in a wide array of household items, from plastic wrap and rubbish bags to plastic bottles. Hemp based plastics decompose in months rather than decades
  • Bio-futures is one of the opportunities that will support future economic development, open the door to new investment and grow employment in regional areas of Queensland
  • Bio-products offer a renewable and environmentally beneficial alternative to existing conventional chemical and fossil fuel refining processes
  • Transitioning to biofuel power stations would lower emissions and create a carbon neutral cycle and thus reduced greenhouse gasses.
  • Reducing our own dependence on mining will protect our water tables from contamination. Fracking would be completely off the agenda

Ian Mazlin (Greens)

Things are so difficult right now. Rent and mortgages are too expensive, houses cost a fortune and families are struggling to put food on the table because groceries cost too much.

But there is hope – we can work together to make a real difference and help our community thrive.

If we want things to change, we have to do things differently. We need big corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share in tax so we can use that money to provide all the things that Queenslanders need to live a good life: affordable housing, free childcare and genuinely free public education and healthcare.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so we work for you – not vested interests.

We will build 100,000 public homes, freeze rents and cap increases, make groceries and power bills cheaper and stop new gas and coal mines while creating a fair transition to well-paid, stable jobs for workers in these industries. We’ll also increase public transport right across Queensland and make it free.

This time, vote Greens.

Richard Ogden (Greens)

I’ve worked as a communication professional in small business, government and community organisations. Having experience in public relations, event management, media production and teaching has made me a good listener and given me insight into how best to represent and amplify the voices of our community. I understand business and ran a successful chamber of commerce, as well as having significant experience in the environment sector.

Recent natural disasters and the housing and cost-of-living crises have revealed severe flaws in our system, and highlighted the fault lines we must repair to build a better future for all of us.

Effective financial management doesn’t require us to choose between looking after people and the environment and a prosperous economy. Greens priorities, smart, evidence-based policies, make it possible to ensure both. We owe it to future generations to value our natural wonders,  and promote sustainable industries to grant every Queenslander access to the things they need to live a good life.

We champion fairness as a society, so we shouldn’t stand by and allow big corporations to pay next to no tax and make huge donations to the old parties. They should be governing for us – not for the highest bidder. The Greens don’t take corporate donations – we govern for you.

We will take on the big corporations ripping off Queenslanders, and will challenge them to act transparently and pay fairer tax to fund the building of 100,000 public homes, properly fund schools, provide free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases because housing is a human right.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

Together, we can create a better future for everyone in Pumicestone. Will you help me?

Our fight for a fairer, more just Queensland has never been more urgent. The Sunshine Coast is at a critical juncture, facing a severe housing crisis and the ever-rising cost of living.

As someone deeply committed to social justice and equality, I believe it’s time for real change in our communities. That’s why I’m running for the seat of Ninderry – to ensure our region has a voice that truly represents the needs of everyday people.

The Queensland Greens offer the most compassionate and transformative solutions, from making housing affordable and accessible for all, protecting our precious environment, ensuring public ownership of essential services, and providing free, high-quality public schools for all.

I’ve seen and experienced first hand the challenges many in our community face. We need leadership that doesn’t just offer band aid solutions but actually addresses the root causes of these issues with bold, progressive policies.

Together, with the Queensland Greens, we can build a Sunshine Coast – and a Queensland – that works for everyone, not just the rich.

I’m proud to be a part of this fight for a future where everyone can thrive, no matter their background or circumstances. Let’s create a fairer, greener Queensland for all. Will you help me?
