Melody Lindsay (LCQ)

Melody qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

The Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party endorses the vision of the Climate Rescue Accord, to stop and reverse global heating, and recognise the 3Rs as commensurate action to achieve that vision, and have adopted or are on the path to adopting a comprehensive suite of the 3Rs in their policies.

Hemp has some impressive environmental credentials. It grows faster than most weeds, negating the need for herbicides and it is fairly pest resistant. Two crops can be grown per season. It is an excellent crop for carbon sequestration and it can be used to make a strong and pest-resistant building material called hempcrete that continues to absorb carbon dioxide as it cures.

We need urgent measures to stop plastic pollution. Our lives and future depend on it. Bio-plastic materials offer significant advantages for the environment. As they are not made from fossil fuels, they do not produce carbon dioxide when decomposing. In addition, most of them are biodegradable. Everything indicates that they could be an especially important part of solving the climate crisis. Hemp is increasingly being recognised as having tremendous potential in our natural ‘toolbox’ of promising crops for bioplastics.

Policy Statements

  • We care about the future of our planet. A greener bent will give our children and our grandchildren clean/er air and clean/er water. Each of us must try to do our part to innovate, change and respect the environment. Our lives and future depend on it!
  • Plastic waste chokes the planet. Petrochemicals are found in a wide array of household items, from plastic wrap and rubbish bags to plastic bottles. Hemp based plastics decompose in months rather than decades
  • Bio-futures is one of the opportunities that will support future economic development, open the door to new investment and grow employment in regional areas of Queensland
  • Bio-products offer a renewable and environmentally beneficial alternative to existing conventional chemical and fossil fuel refining processes
  • Transitioning to biofuel power stations would lower emissions and create a carbon neutral cycle and thus reduced greenhouse gasses.
  • Reducing our own dependence on mining will protect our water tables from contamination. Fracking would be completely off the agenda

Sue Etheridge (Greens)

I’m a small business owner and have extensive experience in banking, finance, accounting, and business management.

Born in Tara, I was raised on a sheep and wheat property, and moved to the Coast permanently over 40 years ago. I reside on rural acreage in the hinterland with my extended family and a menagerie of animals.

Right now, our community is struggling. Soaring house prices and mortgages, skyrocketing rents, and the high cost of living are making it harder for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

With more Greens in Parliament, we can fight for the things that truly matter to you. We’ll make sure everyone has access to the essentials for a good life.

Big corporations in Queensland often pay zero tax while everyday Queenslanders struggle. The Greens will hold these big corporations accountable, making them pay their fair share. We’ll use that revenue to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, and provide free childcare, healthcare, and essential services.

We’ll address the cost-of-living crisis head-on – by freezing rents and capping increases and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

Neither Labor nor the LNP are taking meaningful action to reduce emissions or address the growing threat of man-made climate change. Their continued support for fossil fuels, despite global climate commitments, shows a lack of real urgency and ambition to solve the crisis.

I believe our state deserves representatives who will fight for people, not their wealthy donors. Unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t accept donations from big corporations, which means I’m here to represent you, not vested interests.

As your Greens representative, I will listen to our community and work tirelessly to make sure that everyone in Nicklin has the opportunity to have a good life and that no one is left behind.

Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes. Real change starts with your vote.

Peter Everett (Greens)

Things are tough right now. Rent and mortgages are too expensive, the price of housing has locked so many people out of the market and the cost of groceries is out of control.

But this October, we have a huge opportunity for positive change.

We can start to address these issues right now by electing people who will fight for us, not vested interests. Labor and the LNP have prioritised big business and their profits over everyday Queenslanders. The Greens don’t take corporate donations, so we work for you, not vested interests.

We will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll take real action on the cost of living crisis. We’ll freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We’ll invest in public transport and make it free.

Together, we can do this. This time, vote Greens.

Paula Creen (Greens)

I was born and schooled in Mackay, and I’ve been back living here for the past 21 years. I’ve clocked up 12 years of towing people in boats back to safety with Volunteer Marine Rescue Mackay, and did 5 years as an active member of SES Mackay.

I’m an active member of Mackay Conservation Group and Whitsunday Conservation Council, and an avid litter-picker. I’ve worked in the local building industry as a Building Designer and Drafter for 27 years.

I have served on the committees and boards of a variety of community organisations to support people living with a disability and uphold their fundamental human rights in our region.

I want Mackay to thrive, but there are shops in town that have been vacant for over 15 years, since the first bust of our local coal-dependent economy. The number of locals without a home or who can’t afford basic necessities is heart breaking.

If we want things to change, we have to do things differently. We need big corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share in tax so we can use that money to provide all the things that Queenslanders need to live a good life: affordable housing, free childcare and genuinely free public education and healthcare.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so we work for you – not vested interests.

I’m proud to provide the people of Mackay the opportunity to vote for more for everyday Queenslanders and less for big corporations. We will build 100,000 public homes, freeze rents and cap increases, make groceries and power bills cheaper and stop new gas and coal mines while creating a fair transition to well-paid, stable jobs for workers in these industries. We’ll create a clean manufacturing boom, take back control of our economy and fund universal, free healthcare and education.

I want to see my community thrive again. Together, we can make it happen. Will you join me?

Andrew McLean (Greens)

I’ve been a youth worker, pastor, concreter and had my own mobile mechanic business. I run a housing non-profit and I am skilled at changing toxic organisations to more collaborative models – which will be handy in parliament!

Right now, politics isn’t working for everyday Queenslanders. Why? The old parties are controlled by corporations, billionaires and property developers so they govern for them – not us.

But the Greens have built a people-powered movement of ordinary Australians designed to break the two party system. Which is why, last time I ran for Glass House, the fossil fuel industry spent millions on anti-Greens ads. This time, we have even more parties, spending more money, which shows you we are on the right track – because we don’t answer to billionaires. We answer to you.

I’m passionate about publicly-owned institutions (privatisation has failed us), free healthcare, the environment, a rent freeze and making big corporations pay their fair share so we can use that revenue to build affordable housing, create more bulk-billing clinics and provide genuinely free public transport and education.

The Greens will also tackle the cost of living by breaking up the duopoly of Coles and Woolies, stop price gouging on essentials and make power bills cheaper through renewable energy.

The Greens are fundamentally different. We have evidence-based policies developed through consensus decision making and we’re powered by the wonderful work of our volunteers, not big money.

Together, we can transform politics in Queensland and give every Queenslander the things they need to live a good life. Will you help me?

I’m a father to four incredible kids, a landscape gardener, and like many locals, have been an avid surfer. I love the beauty of our natural environment and I’m a passionate advocate for social justice and equality.

Right now, so many people are struggling. House prices are through the roof, rent is out of control and cost of living is constantly rising.

But there is hope – we can work together to make a real difference and help our community thrive.

Unlike other parties, the Greens don’t accept corporate donations so we will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy.

The Greens are the only party standing up for everyday Queenslanders.

Together, we can do this. Join my campaign and help make it happen.

Alan Corbett (Independent)

Ian qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

If elected one of my main goals will be to support real action on issues relating to the ecological and climate emergency.

I am also prepared to use the ‘3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord’  to inform, when relevant, my position and advocacy on legislation and policy.

I also support the use of the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin decisions I will potentially make in the Queensland legislative Assembly in relation to action on the climate emergency.

As a representative I will need to listen to my community and take them with me on this journey. Bundaberg is a conservative electorate so I will need to listen, evaluate and act accordingly. However, as you can see from my involvement in the opposition to the proposed coal mine I have been very upfront about what I believe and I will not vote for legislation that takes us backwards.

Thanks for the invitation and if you need any more assurances let me know.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Nat Baker (Greens)

Right now, people are struggling. Rent and mortgages are too expensive, the price of housing has locked so many people out of the market and the cost of groceries is out of control.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Will you help me make it happen?

Shaun Sandow (LCQ)

Shaun qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

Deborah Moseley (Greens)

I moved to Queensland 28 years ago, and to the Sunshine Coast in 2007 while working on a project for inclusive employment opportunities in the Queensland Tourism Industry.

My career started in hospitality, including managing restaurants and hotels. My passion was creating careers for disadvantaged youth.

I have Degrees in Tourism Management and Community Development and Education. I have also served on the board of community centres, Reconciliation groups and my beautiful choir.

I am widowed and have one adult child – a musician who brings pride and joy to my life.

Buderim is at the heart of this region, a region that boasts one of the world’s most diverse biospheres. I celebrate the richness and community life here. I want to hear what you want from the Queensland government and serve those needs in the future.

Right now, the inequity in our community is growing. Too many people are one paycheck away from homelessness and hunger. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we make big corporations pay their fair share, we can all have the services we need to live a good life.

Unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t take donations from big business so we’ll take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll freeze rents and cap increases. We’ll make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

The Sunshine Coast residents have the highest car dependency in Queensland – we need to provide effective town plans and free, frequent public transport to make it easy to get from place to place.

We’ll raise the age of criminal responsibility so that 10 year olds are no longer put in prison but instead given guidance to find a new path.

All of our children deserve a better future with housing security, a healthy planet, beautiful wildlife and support for all aspects of their wellbeing.

Will you help be part of the change in Queensland?

Townsville/ 2024 Queensland state election

Here is your Traffic Light Voting Guide for Townsville. You can download the guide to your own computer, print, and fill it in at home and then take it to the polling booth with you. It’s super easy then to transfer your choices onto the ballot paper.  Alternatively, take your phone with you when you head off to vote, and you can then access our advice on the screen.

Benjamin Tiley (Greens)

I am 19 years old, born in Darwin, and I’ve lived in Townsville since 2011. Growing up here is a unique experience and one that I cherish. I have many happy memories of the people, nature and community that makes our city the best in Queensland. Having been a candidate at the council elections back in March, I know the issues that are important to us and hope that together we can make our city better than ever.

I’m running for Parliament because it’s time to breathe some fresh air into local politics. Our community needs a genuine representative that will work with you to help us thrive. I’ll bring a fresh perspective and energy to Townsville and will advocate for better outcomes for all of us.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.

We’ll make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials.

We’ll stop new coal and gas mines and move away from fossil fuels with a fair transition for workers in these industries. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

We’ll create genuinely free and frequent public transport, with more reliable bus services to give you the freedom to get to work, school, and play.

The major parties’ “tough on crime” attitude has failed. Only the Greens have real solutions to our youth justice issues. We must prevent crime from occurring in the first place by breaking the cycle of poverty and harm in our communities, alongside fully funding early intervention for those most vulnerable.

This election, we have an opportunity to see action on what matters. The Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, which means I only represent you and your needs – not wealthy donors.

I’m super excited to get to work and learn about your concerns and how I can best represent you.
