Jim Davies (Greens)

I came to the Nudgee area twenty years ago to raise our family. It’s amazing how having kids has connected me to our community. From swim-club fundraisers to the P&C, people join in with their neighbours to try and to make things better.

I’ve worked for the Queensland Government for 25 years, mostly in the environmental sphere. I’m a passionate advocate for preserving and protecting what remains of our local habitats.

A long-time union delegate, I took on the Newman government’s lackies in our workplace, and have received multiple Union Activist Awards for this work over the years.

I first ran for the Greens locally in 2020, this will be my second time putting my hat in the ring for Nudgee.

I can see that people are doing it tough, both in our own neighbourhood and right across Queensland. Local businesses seem to be closing every week, rents and mortgages are soaring, homelessness is commonplace and I’m losing count of the climate fuelled disasters in recent times.

Dabbling around the edges with watered down Greens policies like temporary price cuts on train fares just isn’t going to cut it, it really is time for major change.

LNP and Labor continue to take corporate donations and have repeatedly shown that they will act in the interest of their donors over the interests of Queenslanders. The Greens refuse corporate donations, so we’ll fight for you.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll cap rents and tax big corporations fairly to build 100,000 public homes. We’ll also use that money to fully fund schools, hospitals and essential services.

Real change starts with electing someone who’ll fight for you and what you believe in.

Join me in making a difference both locally and across this beautiful state.

David Zaloudek (LCQ)

Nicholas qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

The Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party endorses the vision of the Climate Rescue Accord, to stop and reverse global heating, and recognise the 3Rs as commensurate action to achieve that vision, and have adopted or are on the path to adopting a comprehensive suite of the 3Rs in their policies.

Hemp has some impressive environmental credentials. It grows faster than most weeds, negating the need for herbicides and it is fairly pest resistant. Two crops can be grown per season. It is an excellent crop for carbon sequestration and it can be used to make a strong and pest-resistant building material called hempcrete that continues to absorb carbon dioxide as it cures.

We need urgent measures to stop plastic pollution. Our lives and future depend on it. Bio-plastic materials offer significant advantages for the environment. As they are not made from fossil fuels, they do not produce carbon dioxide when decomposing. In addition, most of them are biodegradable. Everything indicates that they could be an especially important part of solving the climate crisis. Hemp is increasingly being recognised as having tremendous potential in our natural ‘toolbox’ of promising crops for bioplastics.

Policy Statements

  • We care about the future of our planet. A greener bent will give our children and our grandchildren clean/er air and clean/er water. Each of us must try to do our part to innovate, change and respect the environment. Our lives and future depend on it!
  • Plastic waste chokes the planet. Petrochemicals are found in a wide array of household items, from plastic wrap and rubbish bags to plastic bottles. Hemp based plastics decompose in months rather than decades
  • Bio-futures is one of the opportunities that will support future economic development, open the door to new investment and grow employment in regional areas of Queensland
  • Bio-products offer a renewable and environmentally beneficial alternative to existing conventional chemical and fossil fuel refining processes
  • Transitioning to biofuel power stations would lower emissions and create a carbon neutral cycle and thus reduced greenhouse gasses.
  • Reducing our own dependence on mining will protect our water tables from contamination. Fracking would be completely off the agenda

Declan Green (Greens)

I’ve called Kallangur home all my life, with my amazing family. I’m a unionist and advocate in the retail sector, helping to educate my co-workers and other workers about their rights.

I’ve always been passionate about helping people get a fair go. When I was 16, I joined the Retail And Fast Food Workers Union and was introduced to the world of industrial law and the importance of union representation. When I was 17, I was facilitating enterprise bargaining in my workplace.

Right now, Labor and the LNP are letting big corporations rip us off. The Greens are different; we don’t take donations from big corporations so we represent you, not vested interests. As your MP, I will listen to your needs and fight for you.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll cap rents and tax big corporations fairly to build 100,000 public homes. We’ll also use that money to fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

I’m passionate about creating fee-free and fully funded public education including childcare, kindy, public schools, and TAFE. It’s time to ease the burden on families by covering all public school costs, fees, excursions, tablets and laptops.

I had the privilege of attending Dakabin State High School for all my high school years and it was a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, like most Queenslanders, I can see the rising gap between underfunded public schools and over-funded private ones! I will fight hard to ensure every Queenslander can send their kids to school for an engaging education and not have to worry about a cent.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll stop new coal and gas mines and move away from fossil fuels with a fair transition for workers.

We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

We’ll create free and frequent public transport: with more frequent and reliable train and bus services to get you where you need to go, and reduce congestion.

This election is our chance to work together to create real change and give Queenslanders everything they need to live a good life. Let’s do this!

Frank Jordan (LCQ)

Frank is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

FRANK JORDAN’s father arrived in Australia as a refugee from communism and his mother is from Hamburg (Germany), a survivor of Operation Gomorrah, an allied war crime where 20,000 civilians were incinerated.

His personal values are derived from humanism and are consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We have a right to a job, a home, good health and social security. We should not be subject to discrimination and our environment should be protected.

Frank has been active in a wide range of community groups all his adult life and knows how important community is and that it needs to be actively nurtured. He was treasurer of the Lifelong Learning Council Queensland for several years, secretary of the Humanist Society of Queensland, president of the Butterfly and Other Invertebrates Club, co-ordinator of a community garden and leader of a bushcare group.

He is best known as the Butterfly Man and co-authored a book, “Create More Butterflies”, about 48 local butterflies. He also tried to save the critically endangered Laced Fritillary butterfly which was last recorded in Queensland near Caboolture.

Cannabis is being legalised all over the world because it is less harmful than aspirin, less habit-forming than coffee and has exceptional value as a medicine. Frank is standing as a candidate to give you a choice, to end cruel and heartless cannabis laws, or continue to submit to politicians who ignore the wishes of the majority.

Frank is not a billionaire, just an ordinary person with a lot of life experience and a big dollop of common sense. Frank would like you to join him in taking a stand against the creeping cruelty that is eroding the Australian tradition of a Fair Go.

Mark Jessup (Greens)

Hailing from Townsville in North Queensland, I set out to find “home” in 2016 after my beloved Cowboys won their maiden premiership and couldn’t find a spot with more potential than the Caboolture region. In 2023, I was lucky enough to marry my wife Tiffany, who is a fierce advocate for the environment, a trait she has now passed to me.

Throughout my 15+ year work career, I have gravitated towards leadership roles, which I earned through hard work, understanding the value of relationships and genuinely caring about the future. I have always been sceptical of politics and held the belief that politicians operated in their own interests, so I thought it was time to make a change and give people the option to vote for someone who will work for them.

The political system in Australia is broken. Democracy lays in ruins as coal and gas corporations and the media dominate, while the old parties listen to their donors instead of everyday Queenslanders.

The old parties prefer to line the pockets of billionaires who pillage our natural resources then sell them back to you at a premium, and allow companies like Woolworths and Coles accumulate billions of dollars in profits by price gouging. They pretend that there is no solution, while taking massive donations from the main perpetrators of the problem.

You and I both know that the future needs to be about serving everyday people, and not just those with deep pockets.

That’s why we will take on big corporations to make them pay their fair share so we can deliver our plans for public and affordable housing, and services that you need like free childcare and properly funded schools and hospitals. We will bring key infrastructure back into public ownership including 100% renewable energy, and protect the natural beauty that makes our state the best place on earth.

With your vote, the Greens will break up the supermarket duopoly to deliver price reductions at the grocery checkout and provide cost of living relief by freezing rents and capping rent increases.

As your member for Morayfield, I will stand up to the old parties, and commit to working for the local community while refusing to take corporate donations.

When you vote Green, you join a nationwide movement of people just like you.

If you have questions, please reach out to me via email and let’s chat about how we can work together to make this happen.

Andrew Kidd (Greens)

I’ve been living in the area with my family for over a decade, and I love our community and local environment more every day. I’m an active volunteer in my daughters’ education and sports clubs, and I enjoy taking our greyhound out to the many beautiful local parks.

I’m running to be your state representative because the two-party system is broken and politics as usual is not serving the interests of everyone. Our community deserves to feel optimistic about our future, but the major parties are only offering more of the same.

As a teacher in a state high school, I see young Queenslanders every day. The next generations deserve a fair and equal society, and a safe natural environment. It concerns me when young people are labeled as the problem, as the climate and housing crises are passed on as their burden to bear.

A strong education system is key to a prosperous and coherent society but Queensland public schools are not funded to even the minimum standard. As I see first-hand, teachers are under-resourced and schools are under-staffed. Students are missing out on billions of dollars in support across the state, and parents are footing the bill.

Families on the westside have been asking for another high school for years, and we have been listening. I will fight for a fully-funded state high school in our electorate, and stand up for students and teachers in all the schools of Moggill.

Cost of living and lack of affordable housing are impacting people regardless of age, income and education. Banks and supermarkets are making record profits, further pushing up inflation. The Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, which means as your MP, I’d be focused on representing you, not vested interests.

I look forward to working with the people of Moggill in creating thriving communities and protecting the incredible natural environment that is on our doorstep and beyond.

Future generations are depending on us.

Carola Veloso (AJP)

Screenshot

Carola is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

Carola has called Brisbane home since she emigrated from Canada in 2011 and is extremely passionate about ending intensive breeding of companion animals and preserving koala habitat by increasing residential density in lieu of Greenfield housing and suburban sprawl.

Having worked in infrastructure, she is intent on promoting responsible building that will alleviate the housing crisis without impacting wildlife.  She is keen to explore sustainable town planning that utilises small-scale multi-unit homes to increase housing supply while reducing land clearing for new developments. Carola believes that the state government should be working with local government agencies to protect endangered wildlife before they become extinct.

Liam Flenady (Greens)

Like many people, my partner Nicole and I moved to the area a few years ago to buy our first home, set down roots and start a family.

We bought a townhouse in Moorooka where we spend a lot of time chasing after our beautiful (and spirited) 1-year-old son Leo. The Miller area is full of incredible people, diverse community groups, and hard-working small businesses and I couldn’t think of a better place to raise my son.

But it’s clear that there are also enormous pressures on families and everyday peoplein the area. From rising rents and mortgages, rising cost of groceries, state school fees and expenses, and out of pocket health expenses, just about everyone I talk to is doing it tougher than they can remember. This is the result of decades of decisions by Labor and the LNP to put corporate profits ahead of everyday people’s needs, and it urgently needs to change.

I know the power that everyday people have when they come together to make change, which is why I’ve been dedicated to transforming Queensland politics from the ground up for many years. I was campaign manager for South Brisbane MP Amy MacMahon’s winning 2020 campaign and Griffith MP Max Chandler-Mather‘s winning 2022 campaign.

I know what it takes to build a movement, to win and to use the resources of an electorate office to make change for the better.

Prior to being involved in politics I was a musician and academic, having studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, completed a PhD, performed and had my music performed across Australia and overseas. Now I mostly just make up funny songs for my son Leo.

It’s my firm belief that Miller deserves a representative who doesn’t take corporate money, who’ll fight for everyday people and what they believe in, and who’ll bring communities together to make change.

Holstein Wong (Greens)

I’m an engineer and a proud New Farm local. I love raising my young family here and getting to volunteer with amazing, vibrant local community groups and organisations.

I became an engineer because I wanted to tackle the climate crisis. I moved to Central Queensland to work in the resources sector, and a few years in, I realised that the big transitions needed to fight global warming aren’t going to happen while successive Labor and LNP governments are in the pockets of fossil fuel companies, big corporations and billionaires.

The major parties will continue to let the climate crisis get worse, as long as their corporate donors continue to profit. Their lack of meaningful action not only harms our planet, but it does a disservice to workers in the sector and communities across our state including here in Brisbane. Change has to happen on many levels, and I’m getting involved in politics to make a positive difference.

It’s not just the climate crisis – we’re in a housing crisis, and the cost of living is soaring. Labor has failed to take action and the LNP don’t have a better alternative. Banks and supermarkets are making record profits, further pushing up inflation. Here in McConnel, people know that the status quo is not serving our community, and we need change.

Our community deserves leaders who listen, who will fight for what they believe in, and will deliver an inclusive way forward. The Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, which means as your MP, I’ll focus on representing you, not vested interests.

That’s why I’m running to win and why I’m asking for your support this October.

Michael Berkman (Greens)

I’m the Queensland Greens’ spokesperson for climate action, jobs, justice and the environment. You can see the full list of my portfolios here.

I moved from Toowoomba to Toowong for university and have lived in Brisbane ever since. My partner and I now live in Toowong with my three kids.

Before entering politics I was a public interest environmental lawyer working in a community legal centre, representing communities in court cases against companies like Adani. My work there focused on fighting thermal coal projects that threaten surrounding ecosystems, communities and farmland, not to mention our climate. This experience led me to realise that our local area, indeed our State, desperately needs a different kind of representation in the Queensland Parliament.

I was the first Greens representative elected to Queensland Parliament in 2017. As the local Member for Maiwar, I’ve seen the impacts of a broken political system at the ground level. While dangerous climate change is speeding up and inequality is getting worse, big corporations are growing their power and profits.

I’m proud to have worked alongside residents to secure funding for local schools, improve public transport routes, and stop the privatisation of our precious public places like Mt Coot-tha. I’m also fighting for change statewide, to put ordinary Queenslanders before corporate profits so that our system works for everyone.

We need representatives who are willing to stand up to big corporations and guarantee everyone a good life and a safe climate. I’m working for a society that provides an affordable home for everyone, good steady jobs, free universal health and education, fast and cheap public transport, all powered by 100% publicly owned clean energy.

Every week I’m out and about in Maiwar hosting community events, meetings, and pop-up offices – check out the events page on my website for more, and please come and say hi. I’m really committed to helping locals exercise influence over decisions that affect their lives, so I’d love to hear from you.

Jade Whitla (Greens)

I passionately believe positive change is possible. We live in a bountiful state, and together we can ensure everyone has access to everything we need to live our best lives.

I’m a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy, a scientist, former Air Force officer and software architect of the ground-breaking Queensland internet start-up, Wotif.com. I am adaptable, innovative and get stuff done.

For the past 16 years I have lived in Wynnum, raising a child and running my own home business as a software developer.

In my years here, interacting with and getting to know so many of you through school parenting, weekend sports, socialising and shopping locally, I have heard your concerns and developed a keen understanding of the lack of support so many people face in the housing, healthcare and education systems.

Right now, it’s clear people have lost faith in a political system focused on putting the interests of a few big corporations and property investors ahead of the rest of us.

But there is hope.

Unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t take corporate donations – so we work for you, not vested interests.

When we harness the collective power of everyday people we can fundamentally transform politics. We can have high quality and genuinely free healthcare and education from childcare to university and TAFE. We can invest in crucial public infrastructure like public transport, renewable energy, and affordable housing. We can freeze rents and cap increases, make groceries cheaper by stopping price gouging on essentials and cut power bills with renewable energy.

We can achieve all of this when we make super-wealthy corporations pay their fair share.

I’m fighting to win Lytton so that together, we can transform Queensland politics and deliver a better life for everyday Queenslanders. Will you help me?

Harmony Lindsay (LCQ)

Harmony is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

Policy StatementsHARMONY LINDSAY is a 19-year-old Wakaid Badulgal (Torres Strait Islander) young lady, and a proud lesbian. Tragically at the tender age of 6, she lost her father to suicide. She was raised by her mother.

She currently works in customer service, but is looking to a career change to something in animal services or politics!

Harmony believes the top three concerns among young people at the moment, housing affordability, employment and climate change, could all be addressed by legalising cannabis and freeing up the hemp industry.

Mark Delaney (Greens)

My family and I have lived in Ipswich for over 25 years. Our three children were all raised here in Queensland’s greatest and oldest provincial city (in my humble view) but times have certainly changed.

My wife and I have volunteered serving the homeless and those doing it tough, providing mobile showers and laundry services in Queens Park for the last eight years. In the past we mostly helped people who were homeless, living on the streets. A decade on and with the cost of living crisis, we are seeing entire families living in cars, veterans, pensioners and single mothers now coming to Queens Park for assistance. We’re also noticing a huge increase in the rise in rental refugees flowing in from Brisbane.

Poverty is a political choice. The revolving door of the same major parties in State Parliament for many decades has created this housing crisis. We need a course correction and the Greens can make it happen at this State election.

Our community deserves leaders who listen, who will fight for dignity for all and who will deliver an inclusive way forward. The Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, which means I represent you and your needs – not big corporations.

We can fundamentally transform politics in Queensland. We can have free education and healthcare, free, frequent public transport, affordable housing and clean energy -all by making rich corporations finally pay their fair share in tax.

That’s why I’m running to win. Will you support me?

Amanda Holly (Greens)

As a long-time resident of Ipswich, it’s been troubling to witness our community grappling with rising living costs, poor air quality, frequent floods, a shortage of affordable housing, and limited access to medical care, all under the watch of the current Labor government.

In my full-time role advocating for a kinder world for animals, I’ve been deeply disappointed by this Labor government’s decision to invest tens of millions of dollars in a new greyhound track in Ipswich. At a time when people are struggling to feed their families and pay their rent, this money should instead be spent on initiatives that improve lives rather than exploit animals for the harmful gambling industry

It’s equally distressing to see our beautiful wildlife habitats being destroyed to benefit property developers. The Labor government has allowed four-fifths of our remnant vegetation to be bulldozed, endangering species like koalas, which are now on the brink of extinction.

As your representative for Ipswich, I will be a relentless advocate for sustainable development. I will ensure that future growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, and I will hold the waste industry accountable for its actions, protecting our community and environment from further harm. Our environment is not a commodity to be exploited; it is a precious resource that must be preserved for future generations.

Above all, I will work tirelessly for the people in our community who are struggling with rising rents, housing shortages, and the escalating costs of daily living.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

We deserve a government that prioritises the needs of the people over political donors. The Greens don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP do. As your MP, I will serve the best interests of all members of our community – not those of wealthy donors.
