Shane Cuthbert (Independent)

Shane Cuthbert is a Former Criminal turned Law and Psychology Graduate, Advocating for the Youth, Justice, Human Rights, Homelessness, Mental Health and Domestic Violence. He will contest the 2024 Queensland State Election as an Independent. CLICK HERE for a full biography.

“If elected one of my main goals will be to support real action on issues relating to the ecological and climate emergency. I am also prepared to use the ‘3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord’  to inform, when relevant, my position and advocacy on legislation and policy.  I also support the use of the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin decisions I will potentially make in the Queensland legislative Assembly in relation to action on the climate emergency.”

Shane qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate

Josh Holt (Greens)

I’ve been a local member of our community for nearly 5 decades now. I’ve raised four children, attended all my schooling and university, worked in several of the local hospitals and run small businesses here.

I am a local Justice of the Peace, Fijian/Australian and a single mum. I hold a Masters in Midwifery, a Masters in Community, Child & Adolescent Health, a Postgraduate Certificate in Prescribing and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology.

Choosing me as your elected representative to State Parliament means you are getting an authentic community member who knows what you are going through, is true to my word, and lives by the Greens values.

Vote for me and I’ll keep the pressure up to make sure you get help with the rising costs of living.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

We need a more democratic process without the dirty donations and constant tax breaks for developers, mining companies and big banks. The Greens don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so I’ll work for you – not vested interests.

I also know that people want to feel safe in our communities. They currently don’t and they don’t feel listened to. I hear you. It has got to change! We need more community-based services for kids who are identified to be at risk of committing crimes. I’ll fight for free breakfasts and lunches in all public schools to help our kids focus and get the most out of their education.

Algester needs a publicly funded, independent small business ombudsman office, community legal advisors for small businesses and adequately-resourced, multi-lingual, small business advisory centres so that innovation and start-up culture is facilitated within our community.

I’ll fight to stop the racism towards migrants, First Nations people and people of colour; and facilitate a culture of respect.

As your elected representative, I’ll fight for a future for all of us – remembering our next generation who are going to be growing up in this beautiful area. Will you join me?

Amelia Dunn is proud to be running as your candidate for the Burleigh electorate in the upcoming QLD State Election.
Amelia has lived on the Gold Coast for most of her life and cares deeply about how the community values and cares for all animals – companion, farmed and wildlife.  Amelia has worked mostly in the retail sector and has volunteered with  animal rights and animal rescue groups in the area which demonstrates her passion for the protection of animals.

Jason Gann (LCQ)

Jason qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

The Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party endorses the vision of the Climate Rescue Accord, to stop and reverse global heating, and recognise the 3Rs as commensurate action to achieve that vision, and have adopted or are on the path to adopting a comprehensive suite of the 3Rs in their policies.

Hemp has some impressive environmental credentials. It grows faster than most weeds, negating the need for herbicides and it is fairly pest resistant. Two crops can be grown per season. It is an excellent crop for carbon sequestration and it can be used to make a strong and pest-resistant building material called hempcrete that continues to absorb carbon dioxide as it cures.

We need urgent measures to stop plastic pollution. Our lives and future depend on it. Bio-plastic materials offer significant advantages for the environment. As they are not made from fossil fuels, they do not produce carbon dioxide when decomposing. In addition, most of them are biodegradable. Everything indicates that they could be an especially important part of solving the climate crisis. Hemp is increasingly being recognised as having tremendous potential in our natural ‘toolbox’ of promising crops for bioplastics.

Policy Statements

  • We care about the future of our planet. A greener bent will give our children and our grandchildren clean/er air and clean/er water. Each of us must try to do our part to innovate, change and respect the environment. Our lives and future depend on it!
  • Plastic waste chokes the planet. Petrochemicals are found in a wide array of household items, from plastic wrap and rubbish bags to plastic bottles. Hemp based plastics decompose in months rather than decades
  • Bio-futures is one of the opportunities that will support future economic development, open the door to new investment and grow employment in regional areas of Queensland
  • Bio-products offer a renewable and environmentally beneficial alternative to existing conventional chemical and fossil fuel refining processes
  • Transitioning to biofuel power stations would lower emissions and create a carbon neutral cycle and thus reduced greenhouse gasses.
  • Reducing our own dependence on mining will protect our water tables from contamination. Fracking would be completely off the agenda

Hunter Grove-McGrath (Greens)

I am an engineering student and a proud Gold Coaster. I grew up in Burleigh – I went to school and worked here. During this time, I have seen the city I know and love change and I know we need people in Parliament who will fight for us and what we need.

Too often we see Labor and the LNP prioritise the vested interests of their rich corporate donor mates ahead of the needs of our community.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

As your representative, I will fight to ease the enormous cost of living pressures felt by families and everyday people in my community. The Greens will introduce a rent freeze and cap increases, tackle mortgage stress and the rising costs of essentials like groceries and power bills. We’ll introduce free public transport and increase the frequency and reliability of services.

We will tax big corporations fairly and use that money to build 100,000 homes and make our schools and healthcare truly free.

We will fight to ensure that there are no new coal and gas mines opened in Queensland and create a fair transition for workers in this industry. The science is clear – we must move towards 100% publicly owned renewable energy sources to prevent the worst of the climate crisis. Not only will this benefit the climate, but it will also benefit your wallet with cheaper power bills.

This election is our chance to show the major parties that we are tired of the status quo and that real change is not just possible, but here. Will you join me?

Linda Barry (Greens)

I’m running because I care deeply for our world and our children.

The time for change is now.

We have an unfolding climate emergency, with ever widening wealth inequality and cost of living and housing crises.

It’s time to give younger people some hope.

I’ve worked and raised my family in this area and I’m firmly embedded in our local community having volunteered for many causes throughout my life.

Throughout my 38 year career as a speech pathologist, predominantly within the public service, I’ve learned to listen and amplify the voices of those who are often unheard.

This has led to a holistic understanding of the needs of children and families from diverse circumstances, and the positive impact of community-led solutions to the complex problems that governments struggle to solve.

I recently ran as a Greens candidate in the Council elections and many of you told me you have lost faith in the current system that puts big corporations and lobbyists ahead of your interests.

You are ready for a change and real action on cost of living, housing and sustainable development that supports a sense of community connection.

I’m committed to living sustainability and applying this to planning, climate and economics.

Like my Green colleagues in all levels of government, I will call out the problems in our current economic and political systems and put the wellbeing of people and our planet front and centre.

I’m here to represent you so we all have the opportunity for a better life. Join my campaign and be a part of this positive change.

Amin Javanmard(Greens)

Hi, I’m Amin and I’m your candidate for Bonney.

As a local community pharmacist and small business owner, my community is at the heart of who I am and what I do.

I have previously been a candidate for the Greens in Bonney and have spoken with many of you about your vision for our area.

Our community has seen the effects of climate inaction first-hand, experiencing an unprecedented tornado on Christmas Day last year. The sudden, violent destruction was only matched by our community’s resilience in the following weeks as we put things back together in spite of the sluggish response from all levels of government.

For many of us, it gave us a glimpse into who will be helped – and more importantly who will be left behind by governments – not only from the consequences of the climate crisis, but also from the negative consequences of other choices made by governments.

Not only have these choices put us at greater risk from climate change, but they have made life more difficult as a result of lack of investment in the things that matter – housing, schools, healthcare, and safety.

Public schools struggle as more money per student ends up in the private system. Roads groan with traffic as public transport goes under-funded. Hospitals and GP surgeries turn away sick patients because the government isn’t supporting current and future staff.

Families have to move frequently and essential workers need to move further away from the community they service as housing has become unaffordable. Kids don’t see their parents because they are working multiple jobs to pay rent. Local businesses struggle to find staff because employees can no longer afford to live nearby and are faced with prolonged and expensive commutes.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. We can start to address these issues right now by electing people who will fight for you, not vested interests. For far too long, Labor and the LNP have prioritised big business and their profits over everyday Queenslanders. The Greens don’t take corporate donations, so we work for you, not vested interests.

We will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll take real action on the cost of living crisis. We’ll freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We’ll invest in free public transport – getting cars off our roads and making it quicker and easier to get from place to place.

This state election is a real chance for change. As your representative, I will listen to you and help achieve the best outcomes for our community. Together, we can do this. Will you help me?

Maja Chodorowski (Greens)

I’ve lived in Redlynch for four years with my husband and our band of small dogs. We are surrounded by mountains. Ringed by rainforests, Freshwater Creek runs through its heartland and the region is home to rare species of tree frogs, abundant birdlife including Blue Kingfishers and even a celebrity Cassowary that regularly trots the local walking track.

My background is in sales and negotiation from the corporate sector. I have a Commerce degree and used to travel around Australia selling jewellery to independent businesses. Wonderful times meeting diverse people from towns and cities. In my current role, I travel to the Cape communities, visiting stores, fixing problems and chatting to people along the way.

We are new to FNQ and I look forward to learning more about its ancient history including plant and land practices that mitigate flood risks. I am here to listen to First Nations leaders who teach culture and language.

We live in a flood prone environment. As your representative, I will work with stakeholders to future-proof Cairns’ homes. We need homes that are affordable, plentiful and well-built to modern standards. The Greens have a plan for a publicly owned developer to build 100,000 new homes available to everyone to buy.

Our region has missed out on state funding for too long. Roads are wearing out after unseasonal flood events, the Kuranda Range has degraded further following Jasper and the Barron River Bridge has been overdue for something more than a facelift for ten years. Locals and tourists use these thoroughfares daily to get to and from work as well as to explore our magnificent Tablelands and rainforests. They require real funding for timely, safe outcomes which are sympathetic to the landscape. I will fight to make this happen.

Unlike other parties, the Greens do not accept corporate donations, so I will work for you – not vested interests. We’ll make corporations pay their fair share and we will use that money to build public homes, fully fund schools, provide free childcare, healthcare and essential services. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.

The Greens will make groceries cheaper and ensure suppliers get a fair price, by stopping corporate price gouging. We’ll take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

Gimuy is important in the Australian Landscape. It is beautiful, it is going places and our voices should be heard so that we don’t lose the things we love as we grow. I will push for conservation of ecosystems and wildlife with conservative developments and advocate for the Reef that supports us through tourism, fishing and industry.

Jennifer Horsburgh (AJP)

Screenshot

Jennifer qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

Jennifer Horsburgh is proud to be running as your candidate for the Currumbin electorate in the upcoming QLD State Election.

Jennifer has lived in the Currumbin electorate on the Gold Coast since 1982 and worked as a teacher for 30 years at Palm Beach Currumbin High School.  She is passionate about her community, and is an ongoing volunteer for the Wildcare hotline, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, the Burleigh parish, and the Austrian-Australian club.

Jennifer believes that immediate action for greater protection of animals, nature and the planet as a whole is vital and as a long term Gold Coast resident, she has a particular passion for the wellbeing and biodiversity of  marine animals and plants.

If elected, Jennifer  will work hard to replace lethal shark nets and drumlines with non-lethal alternatives such as dedicated shark spotters and drones.

Jennifer is also intent on ending the cruel greyhound industry by calling for a Parliamentary inquiry and wishes to see a whole life monitoring system in place for all puppies born.

She will prioritise funding for animal-friendly  retirement homes as well as refuges and crisis accommodation for those escaping domestic violence situations. This would provide safe  options for  many people and  their companion animals.

“I believe free public transport which is reliable, accessible and safe for people and their companion animals should be available and if elected, I will work hard to achieve this through Legislative change.” she said.

Jennifer will prioritise an end to forest clearing, increase green spaces, push  for crucial wildlife corridors and strongly advocate for ‘transitioning away from animal agriculture’ as a key part of the Queensland Climate Transition Strategy, which is presently missing.

“Animal agriculture  is a primary driver of climate change and is responsible for 83% of land clearing so we must bring an end to all intensive animal farming and assist farmers in transitioning to more sustainable and lucrative plant based business. Puppy farms are another form of intensive ‘animal farming’ and also need to be stopped.”

Braden Smith (Greens)

I’m a lifelong Currumbin local and journalism student. I’m deeply familiar with all the wonderful things that make our area so special, including our natural environment, which needs to be protected from threats like land clearing and poor development, as well as the climate crisis that threatens to upend our ecosystem.

We desperately need action on the cost of living crisis. From housing to energy prices to groceries, prices keep skyrocketing, along with corporate profits!

As a young person, I know it is increasingly difficult for people to move out of home, and many people are being forced out of the Gold Coast due to sky high rents that are some of the most expensive in the country.

When big corporations and rich developers are making massive profits off a cost of living crisis, the government should stand up to them. But instead, Labor and the LNP continue to take corporate donations, and act in the interests of profit over everyday Queenslanders.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

The Greens will freeze rents and cap increases. Take energy back into public ownership and crack down on supermarket price gouging.

We will reinvigorate public ownership in Queensland and start getting our essential services working for people – not profit. We will tax big corporations fairly and raise money to build 100,000 homes, fully fund our public schools, ensure healthcare is truly free, universal and high quality and secure permanently free, frequent and accessible public transport.

We could create a future with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, manufactured here in Queensland to tackle the escalating climate crisis and make our energy bills cheaper.

All of this is possible, and it can be accomplished with more Greens in Parliament – people who will fight for you instead of big corporations, rich developers and the fossil fuel industry.

The Greens don’t accept corporate donations. As your representative, I will listen to  and work for you, so we can truly build a future for all of us.

The team at Vote Climate One is constantly assessing the climate credentials of parties and independent candidates. In Queensland the Labor Party has been ranked orange ahead of the Liberal National Party and a whole group of other Red Light parties.

Don’t underestimate the power of your vote in the few electorates in which progressive candidates are standing. Our Traffic Light Voting System is biased towards helping Queenslanders elect a minority government forced to work with solidly-progressive cross-bench representitives.

Now the ballot draw has been finalised we are scrambling to finalise our voting guides to be ready for early voting on Monday October 14th.

We will list Green Light and Outstanding Green Light Candidates on the electorate pages links listed in the chart above. Check out the credentials of these candidates. There are now live links for 93 electorates. It is unfortunate that in some electorates voters have no Green Light candidates from which to choose.

Any candidate or party which will be prepared to formally support the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord are automatically ranked as outstanding Green Light candidates in our voting advice.

Prepolling in the Queensland election will start on Monday October 14th.

We are assessing all political parties and independent candidates. Candidates who are standing under a party banner are assessed with their party ranking. Please contact us if you have information which will help us with the assessment process. Phone Rob on 0427580803.

I am truly proud of my Wiradjuri heritage. My culture is a cornerstone of who I am, shaping my values and guiding my commitment to making a positive impact in our community. As an Aboriginal man, I continue to learn the traditions and wisdom of my ancestors, ensuring that their legacy lives on and our cultural practices are passed on to the next generation.

By running as a Candidate for Yerrabi in the upcoming ACT Election, I aim to bridge gaps, advocate for equitable solutions, and ensure that all voices are heard and valued. My commitment is to serve with empathy, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of a more inclusive and supportive society.

61.3% of Canberran’s supported the Voice Referendum! I want to be a Voice not only for Aboriginal people but for the everyday Aussie family in need of support. I believe in fostering a community where everyone, regardless of background, has access to proper basic health care and improving the housing crisis.

I’m a loving husband and a proud dad to two beautiful daughters, both born on Country. We strive to set an example of integrity and compassion to them, values that I hope to bring to the Legislative Assembly.

I stand to celebrate First Nations Peoples Culture, Story Telling and Language preserved through literacy programs. Everyone deserves the right start to a good education. I was a 15-year-old boy from a small country town when I was accepted for a scholarship to Knox Grammar School in Sydney. This paved a crucial pathway for me and my education. An opportunity I want for my own daughters and all Indigenous kids.

Like you, I’m impacted by the political decisions made in parliament that has significant pressure on our daily lives. I am deeply concerned about the challenges posed by the rising cost of living, escalating housing market, and inadequate cost and wait times for healthcare services. I am committed to addressing these issues effectively and bringing about real improvements. If you are frustrated with the lack of meaningful action from our current leaders, then vote for change, Vote 1 Cooper Pike. I am dedicated to driving real, actionable change.

Andrew Braddock (Greens)

I’m your Greens MLA for Yerrabi and I’m thrilled to be running again to continue to represent our community

On moving to Canberra more than 20 years ago to join the public service I fell in love with the city and its community.

Being an environmental engineer, public servant, and father, I became a passionate community advocate campaigning for government services and infrastructure to support the rapidly expanding population in Yerrabi.

Living in one of the new suburbs in our electorate that swelters in the summer due to a lack of tree cover, I’ve been very motivated to work for more tree planting, green spaces, and shading as well as neighbourhood upgrades to make our suburbs more liveable.

As a renter and a father of two, I personally understand the dire state of the Canberra rental market, and the need for urgent reforms to help renters, which me and my Greens colleagues have worked hard to achieve and will continue doing so in the next Legislative Assembly term.

And as the Greens spokesperson for Anti-Racism and Multiculturalism I’ve worked to ensure that all of our diverse communities in Canberra are welcomed and celebrated. I also introduced a motion in the Assembly to end the ACT Government’s investment in companies that the UN has recognised as complicit in Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian Territories.

I’m proud to stand for re-election as your local Greens MLA for Yerrabi. In 2020 we made history by electing 6 Greens to the Assembly and in that time we have done a lot to make Canberra a fairer city. But there’s still so much more to do and we need to go further and faster to tackle the cost of living and climate crises. Join me and my campaign team to keep Yerrabi Green in 2024.

Alex Gias (Greens)

I’m honored to be one of your Greens candidates for Yerrabi. As an active member of Canberra’s Muslim community with strong ties across our culturally and linguistically diverse electorate, I am deeply committed to fostering awareness, inclusivity, and support for all members of our society.

For over a decade, I’ve worked in primary healthcare as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse. This experience has given me firsthand insight into the transformative impact that accessible healthcare and support services have on individuals and families. It has also underscored the critical need for a well-funded public health system that ensures no one is left behind, regardless of their background.

I have seen how disparities in access to quality, affordable housing and public transport compound the challenges faced by marginalized groups. That’s why I am dedicated to championing the Greens’ plan to build and acquire 10,000 new public homes, develop a 20-minute bus network, and provide free public transport for young people and concession card holders.

As your Greens candidate for Yerrabi, I will leverage my expertise in public health and my deep connections within Canberra’s vibrant multicultural communities to advocate for policies that prioritize equitable access to healthcare and essential services for everyone. Together, we can create meaningful change—but it starts with your vote.

Soelily Consen-Lynch (Greens)

I am excited and proud to have the opportunity to represent our community as one of your Greens candidates for Yerrabi at the upcoming ACT election

I was born in Suriname, spent my next 30 years in the Netherlands, and then like so many others in Yerrabi I migrated to Australia in 2013. Since 2014 I’ve called Bonner my home, alongside my husband and daughter.

I love Yerrabi, and the vibrancy of our diverse neighbourhoods have welcomed me and my family since we arrived. But while a quarter of people in Yerrabi speak a language other than English at home, this diversity is not reflected in the Legislative Assembly. There is strength in diversity, in respect, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all. I believe that people who feel heard and represented provide bigger, more positive contributions to our society, and that’s why I’m standing to become your Greens MLA for Yerrabi.

After studying Law at Utrecht University, I began my career as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer with the Royal Dutch Army before entering the union movement. As a legal advisor and counsel with the Dutch Building and Construction Union, I stood up for workers, holding companies accountable during the GFC. Since my move to Australia I’ve continued those efforts, working as a Field Organiser with the CPSU and now an Assistant Director with Canberra Health Services.

In 2020 the ACT Greens made history and elected 6 Greens to the Assembly, and in the last 4 years we’ve shown that pressure works. But there’s so much more to do. Gunghalin is one of Australia’s fastest growing areas but our community lacks the infrastructure we deserve. Join me this year, together we can make history, and provide real positive change for Yerrabi.

Maria Fatseas (Fiona Carrick Independents)

Maria qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

I am the daughter of Greek immigrants and grew up in central west NSW,
before completing university studies in Sydney and then moving to Canberra
to join the Australian Public Service.
I spent over two decades in public sector management, including in policy
development and program management relating to immigration, international
education, research and innovation. I represented Australia overseas,
including through postings to the Australian Embassy in Vietnam.
I understand the importance of good governance and management, and the
monitoring and evaluation of government programs to ensure they are
achieving desired outcomes. This is a priority for the next Legislative
Assembly to ensure greater accountability of ACT Government
administration.
Having established and operated my own small business, I also understand
issues and challenges facing businesses.
I am committed to standing up for the residents in my local community. As
past Chair of the Inner South Canberra Community Council (for 5 years) and
a Committee member (for 13 years), I advocated with my colleagues on
planning and development, environmental and other issues. Prior to chairing
the ISCCC, I was President of the Yarralumla Residents Association.
In these volunteer roles, I led successful campaigns to achieve better
outcomes, including in relation to plans for the redevelopment of the
heritage-listed Canberra Brickworks precinct, and to stop a polluting waste
facility from being built within a few hundred metres of people’s homes.
Crucial to success was working collaboratively with my fellow committee
members, affected residents groups and communities, and other
stakeholders, to build effective advocacy.
I have been an active volunteer on climate change and environmental issues.
For over a decade, I was a member of the volunteer team, and then
governing Board, that developed, delivered and now operates a community
owned solar farm in the ACT. I support the transition to net zero emissions.
As a support candidate, I support Fiona Carrick in her campaign for election
to the Legislative Assembly. Fiona and I will stand up for local communities
across the electorate.

Bruce Paine (Fiona Carrick Independents)

Bruce qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

I was born in Brisbane, before moving to Canberra and undertaking my secondary education at public high schools in Canberra.

After labouring on building sites for a couple of years, I completed a Bachelor of Economics Degree at the Australian National University. I joined the Federal Department of the Treasury after a period in the private financial market.

I spent nearly 30 years in the Treasury, working across many areas including Federal-State financial relations, taxation policy, financial market policy and developing and administering an assistance package for insurance around 2003. I represented Australia overseas in Tokyo. I retired as a Senior Executive Service Officer.

I consider that good government is one important contributor to the wellbeing of our community. Consultation, transparency and Ministerial accountability by governments are critical to achieving good outcomes for the whole community.

I do not think current ACT Labor/Green majority government has been serving the ACT community well, particularly in recent years.

Canberrans would be much better served if we elect credible independent MLAs (we currently have none) in the ACT election on October 19. This is because credible independents can critically assess policy proposals from any of the major Parties (or propose their own policies) and focus solely on their local community rather than owing their prime allegiance to a major political party.

For some years until 2020 I served on the Board of Pedal Power (ACT), the key cycling advocacy organisation in Canberra. I enjoy cycling however I recognise that is not a viable alternative for many people who commute to work. I also support various charities, including recently through an in-person learning assistance role.

I consider that Fiona Carrick is energetic, intelligent, and shows good judgement and would make an excellent MLA for Murrumbidgee if elected.

Anne-Louise Dawes (Independents for Canberra)

Anne-Louise qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

Anne-Louise Dawes is a descendant of the Dawes and Franklin families that moved to the Brindabella region before Canberra was formed. Generations of the Dawes family have remained in the ACT sharing a deep gratitude for life in the bush city.

As a career bureaucrat, Anne-Louise developed a strong interest in social justice and equality, having seen the importance of improving the social and economic participation of the most vulnerable people in our community. She grew up on the north side before moving to Chifley where she raised two children.

Anne-Louise is armed with a strong working knowledge of both levels of government and a fierce determination to ensure the capital gets its share of federal funding.

Paula qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

Paula McGrady is a Goomeri/Bigumbul woman who has called Canberra home for over 20 years and is the outgoing Deputy Chair of the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body.

Paula’s roots in the community run deep, with a life of service in the community sector including in family and domestic violence, sexual abuse, youth justice, homelessness, education, counselling and support. Paula understands the significance of using privileged positions to advocate for others, having spent most of her life working with and advocating for the grassroots of communities across the ACT and NSW.

Gwenda Griffiths (Animal Justice Party)

Gwenda qualifies as an Outstanding Green Light Candidate.

Dr Gwenda Griffiths has been a Canberra local for nearly fifty years. Guided by a strong sense of justice and equality, Gwenda was devastated to witness Red Hill roos being shot for the first time in the annual government-sanctioned kangaroo cull. As an active member of Save Canberra’s Kangaroos, Gwenda knows that the reality of the yearly slaughter is more horrific than most people realise, and is determined to bring permanent protections to the area’s native wildlife.

Having worked in the ACT health system for many years, Dr Griffiths is aware of the significant challenges that patients face in trying to access the public hospital system. Currently a GP, Medical Coordinator for Breast Screen NSW, and holding Visiting Medical Officer surgical positions at various hospitals, Dr Griffiths has a broad understanding of the relationships between physical and mental health, and the environment we live in. It is this experience as a Primary Care Physician that leads Gwenda to champion a public health overhaul. She says that the same government has run the same system for over twenty years, and she will campaign on a platform demanding significant reform to ensure the public health system is fit-for-purpose and accessible to the entire community.

As a single parent and working mother to three girls over the last decade, Gwenda is committed to representing her local community at the upcoming ACT Legislative Assembly election. Standing as an Animal Justice Party candidate, she will advocate for a public Veticare system to establish a subsidised veterinary care program for low-income earners, pensioners and animal carers — simultaneously easing the cost of living and ensuring all animals receive the veterinary care they deserve.

In addition, Gwenda is passionate about ensuring that native wildlife habitats are protected from property development – and says that the government has a lot to answer for when it comes to habitat destruction and urban sprawl.

“I couldn’t be prouder to represent the Animal Justice Party, with the core values of kindness and rationality. There is a severe shortage of these values reflected in the ACT Parliament – so it’s time for decision-makers who are willing to lead with compassion and integrity.”

Animal Justice Party have fully endorsed the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord.

Michael Brewer (Greens)

I am thrilled to be one of your support candidates for Murrumbidgee in this election. As a member of Generation Z, I am running because I am deeply motivated to minimise the impacts of the climate crisis and help shape a climate-resilient Canberra. I believe that to achieve this, we must reshape our society to prioritise people over corporations and the planet over profits. As a proudly out bisexual man, I am passionate about addressing the challenges faced by our community and working with the progressive movement to ensure all voices within the queer community are represented.

Since moving to Canberra in 2018, I have been actively involved with the Greens and was a candidate in the 2020 election. Having studied at ANU, I have spent the past two and a half years working in the circular economy industry, directly contributing to reducing methane emissions from waste. This experience has provided me with firsthand knowledge in areas such as circular economy, business, innovation, and agriculture. The suburbs of Murrumbidgee have already felt the real impacts of the climate crisis through devastating fires, and it is vital that we work together to build a climate-resilient community—whether in the older suburbs or the newer housing estates in the Molonglo Valley.

As one of your candidates for Murrumbidgee, I will be a voice for young people who want to see an end to the housing and climate crises and aspire to live in a Canberra where no one is left behind. Change is possible, but only if you vote for it.

Sam Carter (Greens)

I’m one of your Greens candidates for Murrumbidgee in the upcoming Territory election. Since 2017, I have proudly called Canberra home, having moved here from Southeast Queensland to access our world-class sports training and support facilities. I’ve had the honor of representing Australia at the Rio and Tokyo Paralympics and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where I won a bronze medal. Throughout my journey, I’ve shared my story with schools, sports teams, and professional audiences, connecting with a wide range of people.

For too long, corporate interests and a lack of genuine action on the housing and cost of living crises—disproportionately impacting marginalised groups—have weakened the ability of the Labor and Liberal parties to truly advocate for Australians. I am deeply passionate about policies that support disabled people, ensuring they can live with dignity and have the same opportunities as everyone else. As a lifelong Greens voter, I’ve stepped up to be one of your candidates for Murrumbidgee to push for real solutions to the cost of living and housing crises. As a renter, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges faced by renters, especially those with disabilities, in finding safe, affordable, and accessible housing.

Emma Davidson (Greens)

I’m your Greens MLA for Murrumbidgee. In 2024 I am excited to announce I will be running again to continue to represent our community

For almost 30 years I have called the suburbs of Murrumbidgee my home. I love this electorate for its mix of everything Canberra has to offer: built heritage and new development, nature parks and beautiful green spaces, and incredible nature reserves like Red Hill.

I’ve spent much of my career fighting for Women’s rights, working in social research and advocacy at the Women’s Centre for Health matters, at the Equality Rights alliance, and as Convenor of the Women’s Electoral Lobby. In addition, I’ve managed online communications for the Australian Medical Association, been Director of Information Management at the Navy, worked in private sector software development, owned and managed a small retail business, and spent seven years working at Centrelink.

My time as a member of Woden Valley Community Council and Secretary at the Pearce Community Centre has taught me that we have to secure the right infrastructure for our communities as the population grows and the climate changes.  This includes schools, healthcare, sports, and arts facilities and a highly effective and accessible public transport network, as well as universal access to safe, secure, sustainable and affordable housing.

Since 2020 It’s been my honour to serve as a Minister in the ACT Government, fighting for vulnerable populations in Disability, Youth Justice, Population Health, Corrections, Mental Health and more. We made history to elect 6 Greens MLAs last election, and we’ve shown since then that pressure works. But there’s still so much work to do. That’s why I’m proud to be standing for re-election as your MLA for Murrumbidgee

Harini Rangarajan (Greens)

I was born in Chennai India, with my family splitting our time between there and Canberra until finally settling down in Rivett in 2018. Growing up in India I witnessed dire economic inequality and its consequences in the form of natural disasters and poverty. That drove me to protest against climate change and against predatory organisations desecrating indigenous customs in India, causes which I champion here in our city as well.

Murrumbidgee is my home, I’m deeply involved in my community at the Mawson Temple, and I went to Orana Steiner in Weston Creek for year 11 and 12. Right now I’m a finance student at the ANU. This electorate is home to mountain ranges and forests which house vast amounts of natural beauty. It also is diverse in its population with families from various walks of life and culture backgrounds settling here for the amenities it has to offer.

I strongly believe that the climate crisis is the most pressing threat to our planet and our people at this moment. It is one that is fuelled by exploitation of the working class at the hands of the greedy elite. In addition, I see a gap in our lawmakers, that they don’t reflect young and diverse voices from the diverse cultural backgrounds that call Canberra home. That drove me to be involved in politics and now, to run as one of your Greens candidates in Murrumbidgee.

The ACT Greens made history in 2020 by electing 6 MLAs, but there’s still so much more work to do. Join me and my campaign team this election to fight for a better, greener future for Murrumbidgee and Canberra.
