Green Light Candidates
Ben Watkin (Greens)
I currently work in the IT service sector supporting a local research organization, I have previously supported local agriculture and food production industries. I’m passionate about sustainability and renewable energy. I want to represent the people who believe we can make a better future.
I’ve seen our community go through the mining boom and bust. In the downturn, social and mental health issues escalate, and in the boom, other industries get crowded out. Ordinary people suffer while billionaires profit.
Our region relies too heavily on thermal coal, and we urgently need to diversify our economy. By raising royalties and making mining billionaires pay their fair share, we can create thousands of jobs building publicly owned renewable energy. We can transition to sustainable and emerging industries and leave nobody behind.
We can build a better future together and an economy for all of us, not just the big corporate donors. We deserve a system that works for everyone. We don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so we work for you – not vested interests.
If we want things to change, we have to do things differently. We need big corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share in tax so we can use that money to provide all the things that Queenslanders need to live a good life: affordable housing, free childcare and genuinely free public education and healthcare.
We will build 100,000 public homes, freeze rents and cap increases, make groceries and power bills cheaper and stop new gas and coal mines while creating a fair transition to well-paid, stable jobs for workers in these industries.
We’ll increase public transport right across Queensland and make it free. We’ll fund universal, free healthcare and education.
Together, we can do this. Will you help me?
