Gympie/ 2024 Queensland state election
Here is a mock up of a Traffic Light Voting Guide. The real time guides for each electorate will be available after the ballot draw which will happen either on Thursday October 10th or Friday October 11th. We will prepare the guides over the weekend ready for pre-polling on Monday October 14th. Once we upload them to the website, you will be able to download, print, and fill them in at home and then take them to the polling booth with you to easily transfer your choices onto the ballot paper. Alternatively, take your phone with you when you head off to vote, and you can then access our advice on the screen.
In the meantime, you can scroll down this page to check out the Green Light Candidate profiles in your electorate.
The team at Vote Climate One encourages all candidates to support the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin any decisions in the Queensland Legislative Assembly relating to action on the climate emergency.
If you have any information which may inform our candidate assessments please use our contact form at the bottom of this page or phone Rob on 0427 580803
Green Light Candidates
Emma Bhuse (Greens)
I love Gympie and I love Queensland. After arriving from the Sunshine Coast 20 years ago, I fell in love with the shift in gears that our more laid back and friendly community provides.
I’m a person with a disability and an ambulatory wheelchair user. Over the last four or five years, I’ve started to traverse around the area in my power wheelchair (sometimes with my beautiful dog, Nutmeg, who you may have met!) and connect with people.
I have a massive love for volunteering, assisting at events and supporting local community groups to grow while also encouraging accessibility and inclusion. I think it’s important to turn my own lived experience in disability, health services and homelessness into action and advocacy to help others experiencing those same issues.
I want to see the people of Gympie gain the services and support they genuinely need to stay and grow in the area for many generations to come. Unfortunately, the most vulnerable people in our community are struggling to keep their heads above water with the cost of living rising and the horrific ongoing housing crisis. People with disabilities, elderly people, young people, single parents and their children make up a large cohort of those finding it tough. Human services are over capacity with requests for help and understaffed or underfunded to do so.
Meanwhile, the major parties continue to pander to their corporate donors instead of looking after the needs of everyday people like you and me.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
When we unite together, we can flip the script. We can have high quality and genuinely free public education. Healthcare for everyone, including mental health and dental care. We could have affordable and accessible housing and free, frequent and accessible public transport. Investment in 100% publicly owned renewables projects and town development so we can all benefit from shared spaces without disrupting our beautiful natural environment or fueling catastrophic climate change.
This can happen if the big end of town pay their fair share.
The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.
I will fight to progress Gympie for everybody and represent you with love and pride. We can lift the area up so that everyone has what they need to live a good life. If we get the basics right now and plan for the future, things will be a bit brighter for everyone.
I know that together we can create a future for all of us. Will you join me?
