Green Light Candidates
Carola Veloso (AJP)
Carola is an Outstanding Green Light Candidate
Carola has called Brisbane home since she emigrated from Canada in 2011 and is extremely passionate about ending intensive breeding of companion animals and preserving koala habitat by increasing residential density in lieu of Greenfield housing and suburban sprawl.
Having worked in infrastructure, she is intent on promoting responsible building that will alleviate the housing crisis without impacting wildlife. She is keen to explore sustainable town planning that utilises small-scale multi-unit homes to increase housing supply while reducing land clearing for new developments. Carola believes that the state government should be working with local government agencies to protect endangered wildlife before they become extinct.
The Animal Justice Party fully endorses the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord
Liam Flenady (Greens)
Like many people, my partner Nicole and I moved to the area a few years ago to buy our first home, set down roots and start a family.
We bought a townhouse in Moorooka where we spend a lot of time chasing after our beautiful (and spirited) 1-year-old son Leo. The Miller area is full of incredible people, diverse community groups, and hard-working small businesses and I couldn’t think of a better place to raise my son.
But it’s clear that there are also enormous pressures on families and everyday peoplein the area. From rising rents and mortgages, rising cost of groceries, state school fees and expenses, and out of pocket health expenses, just about everyone I talk to is doing it tougher than they can remember. This is the result of decades of decisions by Labor and the LNP to put corporate profits ahead of everyday people’s needs, and it urgently needs to change.
I know the power that everyday people have when they come together to make change, which is why I’ve been dedicated to transforming Queensland politics from the ground up for many years. I was campaign manager for South Brisbane MP Amy MacMahon’s winning 2020 campaign and Griffith MP Max Chandler-Mather‘s winning 2022 campaign.
I know what it takes to build a movement, to win and to use the resources of an electorate office to make change for the better.
Prior to being involved in politics I was a musician and academic, having studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, completed a PhD, performed and had my music performed across Australia and overseas. Now I mostly just make up funny songs for my son Leo.
It’s my firm belief that Miller deserves a representative who doesn’t take corporate money, who’ll fight for everyday people and what they believe in, and who’ll bring communities together to make change.
