Pine Rivers/ 2024 Queensland state election

Here is a mock up of a Traffic Light Voting Guide. The real time guides for each electorate will be available after the ballot draw which will happen either on Thursday October 10th or Friday October 11th. We will prepare the guides over the weekend ready for pre-polling on Monday October 14th. Once we upload them to the website, you will be able to download, print, and fill them in at home and then take them to the polling booth with you to easily transfer your choices onto the ballot paper.  Alternatively, take your phone with you when you head off to vote, and you can then access our advice on the screen.

In the meantime, you can scroll down this page to check out the Green Light Candidate profiles in your electorate.

The team at Vote Climate One encourages all candidates to support the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin any decisions in the Queensland Legislative Assembly relating to action on the climate emergency.

Sonja Gerdsen (Greens)

I am a mum, a therapist and peer worker who works in the mental health and domestic violence sector and am currently studying a Masters in Social Work. I work and volunteer in the local community, supporting and advocating for people and families, especially those failed and left behind by our complex government-run systems.

I grew up in Pine Rivers and decades later; I am now raising my children here. As a parent of four, I understand the pressures of everyday life and how it impacts us every day as individuals and a community. We’re going through a cost of living and housing crisis, youth safety issues, lack of affordable education and mental and physical health supports and the uncertainty of a future with the effects of climate change.

Every day I see how disheartened people are by the constant struggles they face. The two major parties continue to fail those they are meant to be working for – their community. Instead, they prop up their corporate donors.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The Greens don’t take corporate donations like Labor and the LNP, so we work for you – not vested interests.

We will make big corporations pay their fair share in tax and then use that revenue to build 100,000 public homes. We will freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries and power bills cheaper. We will make education genuinely free and provide access to quality physical and mental healthcare and youth and community support.

I am committed to fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and value that is the key to enabling us all to thrive personally and collectively.

With deep empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by families, students, those with a disability, mental health issues, and adversity, I am passionate about demonstrating a way to transform the social landscape of Pine Rivers and to contribute meaningfully to our community and beyond.

It’s time we change things, and vote for members of Parliament who listen, understand and represent the people and needs of our community. Change can happen, when we elect those with heart, compassion and determination to do the work that’s needed.

Today, we can work together for a better tomorrow. Change starts with us all.
