Cook/ 2024 Queensland state election

Here is a mock up of a Traffic Light Voting Guide. The real time guides for each electorate will be available after the ballot draw which will happen either on Thursday October 10th or Friday October 11th. We will prepare the guides over the weekend ready for pre-polling on Monday October 14th. Once we upload them to the website, you will be able to download, print, and fill them in at home and then take them to the polling booth with you to easily transfer your choices onto the ballot paper.  Alternatively, take your phone with you when you head off to vote, and you can then access our advice on the screen.

In the meantime, you can scroll down this page to check out the Green Light Candidate profiles in your electorate.

The team at Vote Climate One encourages all candidates to support the 3Rs and the Climate Rescue Accord to underpin any decisions in the Queensland Legislative Assembly relating to action on the climate emergency.

If you have any information which may inform our candidate assessments please use our contact form at the bottom of this page or phone Rob on 0427 580803

This is also the area known as Cape York, The Cape or the tip of Australia. It is a bloody stunning place with dense rainforests, wild animals, vast landscapes, the Great Barrier Reef and best of all, the amazing people who get to call this place home.

Over the past 20 years, I have worked in the hospitality industry, as a licensed plumber, and have also completed a Bachelor of Nursing and Paramedic Science. I have been working in various areas of The Cape (which include Port Douglas, Mareeba, Cooktown, Mossman and Thursday Island) for the past 5 years as both a nurse and paramedic.

Paramedics and nurses are one of the most trusted professions in Australia and across the world. Trust should be one of the most important values your Member of Parliament should foster. If you cannot trust the person representing you, your community, or the policies that govern your everyday life, then it is time for a change. It is time to vote for someone you can trust. I intend to bring this trust I have earned working in the healthcare industry to the job of representing the Cook electorate. Trust is a privilege that is given and I intend to uphold it.

If I am elected, you won’t find me at an office sitting behind a desk. I will be out in the community, listening and providing solutions to your problems. I will hold a hose if there is a fire, a spanner if something needs fixing, a hammer if something needs building. I can help the sick when they are in need and the elderly when they fall. I have a wide breadth of skills, a strong voice and the ability to listen. This will allow me to represent you, the people of the Cook electorate

Right now, our communities are struggling. Prices are going up and up on housing, groceries, healthcare and education. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we make big corporations pay their fair share, we can all have the services we need to live a good life.

Unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t take corporate donations so we’ll take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders.

We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll freeze rents and cap increases. We’ll make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials.

We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, and take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.

I would also love to see more funding for our arts and music festivals and children’s sport across The Cape, and improved access to tertiary education in remote areas. I will fight to save our reef and rainforests, and endeavour towards becoming plastic free and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

I will work towards providing a program for free meals each day for every child in childcare and public schools, be a strong ally and support improving Indigenous health outcomes, seek ways to eliminate rheumatic heart disease and provide more bulk billing GPs so that everyone in Cook can get the medical care they need, when they need it – for free.

I want to see every Queenslander get a fair chance to enjoy a fun, happy, and healthy life and lead a more sustainable future for the kids of tomorrow. Will you help me?
