“Paula is angered by the government’s lack of action on climate change and will ensure a swift transition to clean energy that provides support and retraining to affected workers.”
Paula Gilbard lives with her husband and several companion animals and is driven to politics to protect animals, the planet and people. Operating a small business as a BAS Agent and accounting software specialist, Paula is familiar with the need to balance sustainability, growth and resilience within a business.
From rescuing wildlife to advocating for animals in the animal agriculture system, Paula has a strong desire to protect all animals. Her awareness of animal suffering began with footage of animals trapped and harmed in the fur industry but over time she connected the cruelty of animal farming to the food on her plate. Paula is concerned that the cruelty involved in the killing of animals for food is well hidden from consumers and that the sterilised packaging of meat in supermarkets hides the true cost to the animals, society and the earth.
Paula is angered by the government’s lack of action on climate change and will ensure a swift transition to clean energy that provides support and retraining to affected workers.
Paula is a keen gardener and, along with her husband, is transforming a small patch of land into a permaculture food forest to provide food for her family, community, and native animals. She is putting words into action personally by growing food, all the while becoming self-sufficient and reducing her footprint and food miles. As an MP, Paula will push for agricultural food systems that are in harmony with the earth and wildlife.
