Climate Policies

Delivered

We’ve made progress to help protect our environment for future generations, with our electricity system now at 40% renewables. I’m proud to have helped deliver:

  • Stronger climate legislation – with tougher laws to crack down on pollution from Australia’s biggest emitters.
  • Efficiency standards for new vehicles – to cut car emissions by 60% by 2030, lower fuel bills by up to $1,000, and boost EV take-up.
  • $1 billion to support home electrification – helping 110,000 households with energy upgrades.
  •  Improved nature protection – including proper assessment of big projects’ impact on water resources, and a new market to increase investment in nature protection.

But there’s still a long way to go and we are not moving fast enough. That’s why I’m focused on:

Future Plans

  • Strong targets for 2030 and 2035 – that help us reduce climate pollution before it’s too and replace the 90% of coal-fired power due to retire in the next decade.
  • An Energy Bill Relief Plan – by giving people power over energy prices, through support for rooftop solar, batteries, and home energy efficiency.
  • Seizing our superpower potential – by accelerating our transition and creating the clean energy jobs of the future.
  • Get serious about protecting nature – by ending native forest logging, fixing our broken environmental laws, and taking global warming into account in environmental assessments.

Nick Ward (Greens)

As a proud member of the LGBTIQA+ community and a social and environmental activist, this has been the place where my professional experience and passion for a healthy thriving community have come together.

Trained as a space engineer, I’ve dedicated most of my career to the technology, travel, and tourism industries. I’ve honed my skills in leadership, strategy, and innovation, but throughout I’ve been committed to sustainable practices and fostering inclusive environments. I’ve worked to bridge gaps between businesses and communities, fighting to ensure that growth benefits all.

Our community is facing significant challenges, from housing affordability to the pressing need for climate action. The scourge of racism and antisemitism will weigh heavily on this campaign. I believe in proactive, evidence-based solutions that address these issues head-on. I aim to bring a fresh perspective to Wentworth, advocating for Greens policies that reflect our shared values of fairness, sustainability, and community well-being.
