Lauren Granger-Brown (Greens)

For over twenty years, my work as an English language teacher and teacher-trainer has taken me around Australia and the world. It makes me really appreciate what we have in central Queensland.

Every day we navigate what it means to live in a regional community in a time of rapid change. The opportunities for us to thrive are enormous, but we face threats like never before, and we must be prepared to meet these head on. Now is the time for us to work together to build resilience in both our economy and our land base to future-proof our community.

Our region has been knocked by drought, bushfire, and other extreme weather events. People are doing it tough, and it’s not getting any easier. House prices are through the roof, rent is out of control and cost of living is constantly rising.

We cannot afford poorly-informed, self-serving, knee-jerk responses to multiple compounding crises. We need to listen to experts, not political soundbites. We need publicly-owned institutions that are well funded, resourced and ready to not only respond but coordinate, to keep us safe. The voices of division have been given a megaphone for too long.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

We can start to address these issues right now by electing people who will fight for us, not vested interests. Labor and the LNP have prioritised big business and their profits over everyday Queenslanders. The Greens don’t take corporate donations, so we work for you, not vested interests.

We will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, provide free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll take real action on the cost of living crisis. We’ll freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We’ll invest in public transport and make it free.

Together, we can do this. Join my campaign and help make it happen.
