Callen Sorensen Karklis (Greens)

I am a student and local Quandamooka salt water man originally from Straddie (Minjerribah). I have lived and worked in this area for most of my life. It’s an area I care about and know it’s worth protecting, not only because it’s sacred to my First Nations ancestors but because it’s an area I know we all love to call home because of the uniqueness of the bayside.

I have worked in the local community in retail, public service roles, and in advertising as well as several local volunteer organisations. I realised several years ago I had to get involved in politics after I became concerned about the future of our local environment, especially at Toondah Harbour.

I have first-hand experience of the cost of living crisis and know how tough the rental market has become. Everything is so expensive, it’s making it impossible for many people to make ends meet.

Labor and the LNP keep putting big corporations and their profits before everyday Queenslanders. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.

We’ll also take real action on the cost of living crisis. We’ll freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries cheaper. We’ll break up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stop corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy.

The Greens will protect Toondah Harbour and other environmentally significant areas, to make sure we don’t lose their natural beauty to over-development.

As your representative, I will share your concerns on Birkdale land being considered for a White-Water facility. We know this decision would affect liveability for Redlands residents, including in Oodgeroo.

Our community deserves a representative who will listen to you and represent your needs in Parliament. I will celebrate our diversity and bring our community together. And unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t take corporate donations, so I work for you – not vested interests.

Will you join me?
