Tamborine Mountain has been my home for 16 years. I love the beautiful countryside, natural environment and close-knit communities of our region.
As a registered nurse and a midwife of 30 years, I get the opportunity to talk with locals regularly and hear their concerns. Many people are struggling with the cost of living – the price of everything has gone up, groceries, electricity, rent and mortgages.
This is the result of decades of the major parties putting big business before everyday people like you and me. It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Greens will take on the big corporations that are ripping off Queenslanders. We’ll make them pay their fair share and use that money to build 100,000 public homes, fully fund schools, free childcare, hospitals and essential services.
We’ll also take real action on the cost of living crisis. We’ll freeze rents and cap increases and make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll cut power bills with 100% publicly owned renewable energy.
Our region is famous for its natural beauty and productive farmland, both of which are vital to keep our tourism industry thriving. That’s why I’m supporting our community to fight the proposed incinerator earmarked for Bromelton. An incinerator does not belong in an area that grows food!
Scenic Rim needs protection from pollution – not only for its agriculture, but for the natural beauty of the environment, our tourism industry and the locals who call this place home. The waste industry has too much influence over Labor and the LNP – the Greens will stand with the community to stop this inappropriate development and find sustainable waste management solutions.
Over the next ten years there will be an increase in the population in South East Queensland. With many in our region already in housing stress, we need leaders in Parliament that will help solve the housing crisis with care – not let profit-hungry developers destroy our beautiful area. Housing needs to be affordable, close to public transport and designed so that people feel like a part of their community.
Unlike Labor and the LNP, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations so I will represent you, not vested interests. So join me, and together we can change the state of current politics. It’s time the government looked after everyday people, not big corporations.
