Green Light Candidates
Mitch McCausland (Greens)
Like many people following the pandemic, I relocated to Southport for a better life amongst the sunshine and the vibrant surf. The diversity of our electorate invigorates me, from the students, first generation migrants, artists and blue collar families – there is no better place in the Gold Coast.
I am privileged to have the job of my dreams – I help make video games that entertain and enrich the lives of millions all over the world. I am also a proud and loud unionist through my work with Game Workers Australia, where through my role as co-convenor I help my fellow game workers ensure that their wages and conditions are fought for and improved.
As a renter working in a volatile industry, I feel the severity of the cost of living and rental crises first hand. In a wealthy state like Queensland we should not have neighbours struggling to pay rent or buy groceries while big corporations continue to make record profits. Shops are closing, more people are forced to live on the streets – everyone is feeling it right now.
Thankfully, we have the power to change this. This Queensland State Election, the Greens have a plan to make tangible change for everyday people.
The Greens will freeze rents and cap increases, take energy back into public ownership and crack down on supermarket price gouging.
We will reinvigorate public ownership in Queensland and start getting our essential services working for people – not profit. We will tax big corporations fairly and raise money to build 100,000 homes, fully fund our public schools, ensure healthcare is truly free, universal and high quality and secure permanently free, frequent and accessible public transport.
We could create a future with 100% publicly owned renewable energy, manufactured here in Queensland to tackle the escalating climate crisis and make our energy bills cheaper.
For too long, the major parties have taken Southport for granted. Real change happens when you vote for someone who will put our community’s interests first, not those of their corporate backers. The Greens don’t accept donations from the big end of town, so we’ll stand up for you.
This time, vote Greens.
