Green Light Candidates
Thom Roker (Greens)
I am a born and bred Queenslander with ties to the Toowoomba region going back decades. I live in the family home in Newtown with my darling daughter and mischievous dog. I am currently self-employed as a work-from-home online University Preparation Teacher and I moonlight as a “Rockstar” waiter in the city’s burgeoning restaurant scene.
Since arriving back north during COVID-19 in 2020, I’ve worked with our city’s refugee and migrant community and am passionate about continuing to advance the opportunities for these families as they adapt to living in our vibrant and supportive community.
Across Toowoomba things are difficult right now. Rent and mortgages are too expensive, houses cost a fortune and families are struggling to put food on the table because groceries cost too much.
But there is hope – we can work together to make a real difference and help our community thrive.
Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take donations from big corporations, so I will represent you, not vested interests.
The Greens will tax big corporations fairly and use that money to build 100,000 homes, make our schools and healthcare genuinely free and lower power bills by transitioning to 100% publicly owned renewable energy. We will increase public transport across our state and make it free. We’ll also freeze rents and cap increases.
The Greens will make groceries cheaper by breaking up the duopoly power of Coles and Woolies and stopping corporate price gouging for essentials. We’ll take back control of our economy by bringing key infrastructure and services into public ownership.
The Greens don’t take corporate donations, so we fight for you. We’ll take on the mining industry when coal seam gas pollution threatens our environment, or fight back when precious koala habitats are under threat by developers.
We are the only party standing up for everyday Queenslanders. This time, vote Greens.
